Background. Psoriasis is a noncontagious auto‐inflammatory chronic skin disease. So far, some of the inflammatory genes were upregulated in mouse model of psoriasis. This study examined changes in skin mRNA expression of L‐kynureninase (Kynu), cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide (Camp), beta‐defensin 2 (Defb2), and proenkephalin (Penk) in a mouse model ...

Expression of preproenkephalin mRNA by cultured astrocytes and neurons. [PDF]
Expression of preproenkephalin mRNA by developing glia and neurons was examined in cultures of embryonic and neonatal rat brain. Cultured glia from specific regions of embryonic day 17 and neonatal day 1 rat brain were identified as astrocytes on the basis of both morphology and expression of immunoreactivity for glial fibrillary acidic protein.

In order to assess the role of striatal dopamine (DA) afferents in l-DOPA-induced dyskinesia, we have studied a large series of rats sustaining 2, 3, or 4 unilateral injections of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) in the lateral striatum.

Dopamine D-4 receptor counteracts morphine-induced changes in µ opioid receptor signaling in the striosomes of the rat caudate putamen [PDF]
The mu opioid receptor (MOR) is critical in mediating morphine analgesia. However, prolonged exposure to morphine induces adaptive changes in this receptor leading to the development of tolerance and addiction. In the present work we have studied whether

Denervation of rat adrenal glands markedly increases preproenkephalin mRNA. [PDF]
The effect of denervation on the expression of rat adrenal proenkephalin has been examined. Following splanchnicectomy there was a several-fold increase in the steady-state levels of preproenkephalin mRNA, which became maximal after 24-48 hr (greater than 10-fold).

Reversal of parkinsonian symptoms in primates by antagonism of excitatory amino acid transmission: potential mechanisms of action. [PDF]
Parkinsonism is characterised by overactive glutamatergic transmission in the cortico-striatal and subthalamo-medial pallidal pathways. Local blockade of glutamatergic transmission in these pathways can alleviate parkinsonian symptoms.

Electroacupuncture and Moxibustion Decrease Renal Sympathetic Nerve Activity and Retard Progression of Renal Disease in Rats [PDF]
Background/Aim: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an increasing major public health problem worldwide. the sympathetic nervous system and nitric oxide play an important role in the pathogenesis of CKD. Traditional Chinese medicine has accumulated thousands

Receptors of peptides as therapeutic targets in epilepsy research [PDF]
Neuropeptides are signaling molecules participating in the modulation of synaptic transmission. Neuropeptides are stored in dense core synaptic vesicles, the release of which requires profound excitation.

Current evidence for a modulation of low back pain by human genetic variants [PDF]
The manifestation of chronic back pain depends on structural, psychosocial, occupational and genetic influences. Heritability estimates for back pain range from 30% to 45%. Genetic influences are caused by genes affecting intervertebral disc degeneration

Opioids Inhibit Lateral Amygdala Pyramidal Neurons by Enhancing A Dendritic Potassium Current [PDF]
Pyramidal neurons in the lateral amygdala discharge trains of action potentials that show marked spike frequency adaptation, which is primarily mediated by activation of a slow calcium-activated potassium current.
