Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Amygdalin based G-6-P synthase inhibitors as novel preservatives for food and pharmaceutical products

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
G-6-P synthase enzyme has been involved in the synthesis of the microbial cell wall, and its inhibition may lead to the antimicrobial effect. In the present study, we designed a library of amygdalin derivatives, and two most active derivatives selected ...

Stability of Plant Leaf-Derived Extracellular Vesicles According to Preservative and Storage Temperature

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2022
Plant-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) are capable of efficiency delivering mRNAs, miRNAs, bioactive lipids, and proteins to mammalian cells. Plant-derived EVs critically contribute to the ability of plants to defend against pathogen attacks at the ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Development of a sustainable procedure for smartphone-based colorimetric determination of benzalkonium chloride in pharmaceutical preparations

open access: yesHeliyon
A sustainable procedure offering green, simple, and rapid analysis was developed to determine benzalkonium chloride (BKC) in pharmaceutical preparations. The determination using smartphones was based on the ion pair colorimetric reaction with bromothymol

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Determination of Preservatives in Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products

open access: yesKorean Journal of Environmental Health Sciences, 2016
Objectives: Preservatives are commonly used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and other products to extend the expiration date and prevent the growth of microorganisms. Preservatives are generally effective in controlling mold and inhibiting yeast growth, and against a wide range of bacterial attacks as well. They also adversely affect the quality of sperm
