Comparative single‐cell transcriptomic profiling of patient‐derived renal carcinoma cells in cellular and animal models of kidney cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We generated and characterized clear cell renal cell carcinoma models using the patient‐derived RCC243 cell line—including cell culture, orthotopic, and metastatic tumors—via single‐cell RNA‐sequencing for comparisons between models and patient tumor datasets.

The Effects of Latent Infection on the Dynamics of HIV [PDF]

open access: yesDifferential Equations and Dynamical Systems, 3, 2016, 2013
One way in which the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) replicates within a host is by infecting activated CD4+ T-cells, which then produce additional copies of the virus. Even with the introduction of antiretroviral drug therapy, which has been very successful over the past decade, a large obstacle to the complete eradication of the virus is the ...

Development and Initial Validation of a Questionnaire to Measure Health-Related Quality of Life of Adults with Common Variable Immune Deficiency: The CVID_QoL Questionnaire. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: Generic health status quality of life (QoL) instruments have been used in patients with common variable immune deficiency (CVID). However, by their nature, these tools may over- or underestimate the impact of diseases on an individual's QoL.

Primary Immunodeficiencies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs), once considered to be very rare, are now increasingly recognized because of growing knowledge in the immunological field and the availability of more sophisticated diagnostic techniques and therapeutic modalities [161].

Organoid‐Like Neurovascular Spheroids Promote the Recovery of Hypoxic‐Ischemic Skin Flaps Through the Activation of Autophagy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Highly sprouting organoid‐like neurovascular spheroids (NVUs) are developed, featuring cell‐loaded poly‐3‐hydroxybutyrate 4‐hydroxybutyrate(P34HB) porous microsphere cores embedded within Gelatin Methacryloyl. NVUs formed complex vascular plexuses and secreted extracellular matrix in vitro, simulating autologous nerves and blood interaction.

Two-dimensional stability analysis in a HIV model with quadratic logistic growth term [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
We consider a Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) model with a logistic growth term and continue the analysis of the previous article [6]. We now take the viral diffusion in a two-dimensional environment. The model consists of two ODEs for the concentrations of the target T cells, the infected cells, and a parabolic PDE for the virus particles. We study

Calculation of a Primary Immunodeficiency “Risk Vital Sign” via Population-Wide Analysis of Claims Data to Aid in Clinical Decision Support

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2019
Background: Early diagnosis of primary immunodeficiency disease leads to reductions in illness and decreased healthcare costs. Analysis of electronic health record data may allow for identification of persons at risk of host-defense impairments from ...

Heterologous prime-boost-boost immunisation of Chinese cynomolgus macaques using DNA and recombinant poxvirus vectors expressing HIV-1 virus-like particles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: There is renewed interest in the development of poxvirus vector-based HIV vaccines due to the protective effect observed with repeated recombinant canarypox priming with gp120 boosting in the recent Thai placebo-controlled trial.

Primary immunodeficiency for the primary care provider [PDF]

open access: yesPaediatrics & Child Health, 2016
Primary immunodeficiencies are a group of heterogeneous disorders resulting from defects affecting the function of ≥1 parts of the immune system. Current estimates of the prevalence of primary immunodeficiency disease are one in 1200 patients. In Ontario, where the average general practitioner follows 1300 to 2000 patients, an estimated two patients ...

Leveraging Optical Anisotropy of the Morpho Butterfly Wing for Quantitative, Stain‐Free, and Contact‐Free Assessment of Biological Tissue Microstructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 12, March 26, 2025.
We leverage the intrinsic optical anisotropy of the Morpho butterfly wing to introduce Morpho‐Enhanced Polarized Light Microscopy (MorE‐PoL), a stain‐ and contact‐free imaging methodology that quantitatively assesses the microstructural properties of fibrous biological tissues.
