Metagenomic analysis reveals shared and distinguishing features in horse and donkey gut microbiome and maternal resemblance of the microbiota in hybrid equids [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Mammalian gut microbiomes are essential for host functions like digestion, immunity, and nutrient utilization. This study examines the gut microbiome of horses, donkeys, and their hybrids, mules and hinnies, to explore the role of microbiomes in hybrid vigor.

Noncoding RNAs in Host–Microbiota Interaction

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The intricate interplay between gut microbiota and the host exerts a profound impact on host biological processes and disease development. This review highlights the pivotal role of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) in this interaction. Host ncRNAs regulate gene expression and microbiota composition, whereas microbial small RNAs (sRNAs) modulate host gene ...

Lactobacillus paracasei N1115 attenuates obesity in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 418-427, January 2023., 2023
Lactobacillus paracasei N1115 relieved high fat diet induced obesity. Lactobacillus paracasei N1115 decreased body weight, fat accumulation and hyperlipidemia by increasing the abundance of beneficial bacteria (Allobaculum and L. Zeae) and decreased harmful bacteria (Turicibacter).

Dietary supplement of sodium butyrate improves the growth performance and intestinal health by targeting Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway in rabbits

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary supplement of sodium butyrate, may relate to regulating intestinal health and thus the growth performance and meat quality of rabbits by regulating the continuous process of promoting the periodic cycle of cecal epithelial cells. Abstract Supplementation of sodium butyrate (SB) has been proved to be beneficial for improving the growth ...

In vitro model of human mammary gland microbial colonization (MAGIC) demonstrates distinctive cytokine response to imbalanced human milk microbiota

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Despite the established concept of the human mammary gland (MG) as a habitat with its own microbiota, the exact mechanism of MG colonization is still elusive and a well-characterized in vitro model would reinforce studies of the MG microbiota development.

Effect of terracotta drinker and/or water addition of ASPRO‐C plus on behavior, growth, and physiological response of broiler chickens exposed to high temperature

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a terracotta drinker and/or water supplementation with ASPRO‐C Plus on the zootechnical performance of broiler chickens reared in a hot environment. A total of 160 Cobb 500 broiler chicks of 15 days old (240.2 ± 39.82 g) were divided into four treatment groups in a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement of ...

Impact of hydrocolloid and foaming agent on the physicochemical, microstructural and bioactive characteristics of foam‐mat freeze‐dried tapai (fermented black glutinous rice) powder

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 578-589, January 2023., 2023
Foam‐mat freeze‐drying, using different concentrations of maltodextrin (MD) and whey protein isolate (WPI), represents a promising technology for retaining the bioactive compounds in fermented black glutinous rice (FBGR) powder and have the most superior physical and technological properties. Abstract The aim of this study was to obtain fermented black
