A High-confidence Cyber-Physical Alarm System: Design and Implementation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Most traditional alarm systems cannot address security threats in a satisfactory manner. To alleviate this problem, we developed a high-confidence cyber-physical alarm system (CPAS), a new kind of alarm systems.

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

Sintering of Alumina-Reinforced Ceramics Using Low-Temperature Sintering Additive

open access: yesCrystals
Reinforced alumina ceramics are renowned for their high hardness and strength among common oxide ceramics. However, high-temperature or high-pressure treatment is necessary for maximizing values of strength and hardness.

Approximate Stokes Drift Profiles in Deep Water

open access: yes, 2014
A deep-water approximation to the Stokes drift velocity profile is explored as an alternative to the monochromatic profile. The alternative profile investigated relies on the same two quantities required for the monochromatic profile, viz the Stokes ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Continued fraction for formal laurent series and the lattice structure of sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Besides equidistribution properties and statistical independence the lattice profile, a generalized version of Marsaglia's lattice test, provides another quality measure for pseudorandom sequences over a (finite) field.
