This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The calculation of simple ages in population projections [PDF]
This study describes a method of interpolation to disaggregate into single ages populations estimated or projected by five-year age groups. The method - minimum roughness - obviates the problem of spurious variations, which is a rather frequent problem ...

Projective Modules Over Quantum Projective Line [PDF]
Taking a groupoid C*-algebra approach to the study of the quantum complex projective spaces [Formula: see text] constructed from the multipullback quantum spheres introduced by Hajac and collaborators, we analyze the structure of the C*-algebra [Formula: see text] realized as a concrete groupoid C*-algebra, and find its [Formula: see text]-groups ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

It is shown that projective determinacy follows from large cardinal axioms weaker than the assertion that supercompact cardinals exist.

CBO Projects More Severe Downturn [PDF]
The new economic projections from the Congressional Budget Office show the economy remaining well below its potential level of output until 2014. The projections show the unemployment rate averaging 10.2 percent in 2010 and gradually edging down to the ...

Let X be a smooth projective variety of dimension n in P^r. We study the fibers of a general linear projection pi: X --> P^{n+c}, with c > 0. When n is small it is classical that the degree of any fiber is bounded by n/c+1, but this fails for n >> 0.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
