Preparation of properdin by affinity chromatography
Immunochemistry, 1977Abstract A new technique is described for the preparation of properdin by immune affinity chromatography. Anti-human properdin antibody was attached via its carboxyl groups to amine-substituted Sepharose 4B with the use of a water soluble carbodiimide.

The Properdin System and Immunity
The Journal of Immunology, 1959Summary A 100-fold purification of the third component of human complement (C′3) has been achieved, employing Fraction III-1 (Cohn Method 9) as starting material. The final product was electrophoretically heterogeneous but was free of the activities of other components of complement, properdin, plasmin and C′1-esterase.

Action of Tetracycline on the Level of Properdin
Nature, 1961THE influence of antibiotics on the formation of antibodies has been studied by many authors. Recently, Patocka et al.1 published a paper describing the inhibitory effect of tetracycline on the formation of specific antibodies of various types in infections or after immunization with brucellae, the influenza virus and herpes in laboratory animals ...

Properdin, a 53 kDa glycoprotein, is a key positive regulator of the alternative pathway by significantly increasing the half-life of the C3 and C5 convertases. Properdin is also an initiator of the alternative pathway. Unlike most complement proteins, properdin is produced primarily by leucocytes rather than hepatocytes, and circulates at 4–25 μg/mL ...

Solid phase radioimmunoassay of properdin
Immunochemistry, 1973Abstract This report describes a solid phase radioimmunoassay for measuring properdin concentration, independent of other proteins in the properdin system. Polystyrene tubes are coated with mono-specific rabbit antiserum to human properdin. The competitive binding of increasing concentrations of unlabeled properdin (10–50 ng) and a constant amount of

Properdin — Its Biologic Importance
New England Journal of Medicine, 1972IN the classical complement system, complement action is initiated by immune complexes through the activation of C1, the first component of complement.

The properdin factor B (BF) polymorphism comprises two common alleles, F and S; two less common alleles, Fl and SO.7 (previously termed SI); and several further rare alleles, described by Mauff et al. [1]. These electrophoretic variants have been used in traditional linkage analyses to map the structural gene coding for factor B between HLA-B and HLA ...

CONCERNING THE NATURE OF THE PROPERDIN SYSTEM
Pediatrics, 1958The properdin system, which is composed of properdin, magnesium and complement, has a variety of activities in vitro. Among these are the lysis of certain bacteria and abnormal erythrocytes, the inactivation of some viruses, and the ability to interact with polysaccharides from such diverse sources as bacteria, yeasts and normal or neoplastic mammalian
