Prophage Genomics and Ecology in the Family Rhodobacteraceae
Roseobacters are globally abundant bacteria with critical roles in carbon and sulfur biogeochemical cycling. Here, we identified 173 new putative prophages in 79 genomes of Rhodobacteraceae.

Cryptic Prophages Contribution for Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli Introgression
Campylobacter coli and C. jejuni, the causing agents of campylobacteriosis, are described to be undergoing introgression events, i.e., the transference of genetic material between different species, with some isolates sharing almost a quarter of its ...

Prophage Tracer: precisely tracing prophages in prokaryotic genomes using overlapping split-read alignment [PDF]
Abstract The life cycle of temperate phages includes a lysogenic cycle stage when the phage integrates into the host genome and becomes a prophage. However, the identification of prophages that are highly divergent from known phages remains challenging.

Events following prophage Mu induction [PDF]
Escherichia coli strains lysogenic for a thermoinducible Mu prophage (Mu cts62) undergo rapid lysis about 50 min after heat induction. Induction of Mu cts62 apparently causes damage to the host sequences in which Mu is inserted. The normal expression of A, BU, and X genes of Mu is needed for this specific deleterious effect on the prophage-containing ...
