Simulating time-to-event data under the Cox proportional hazards model: assessing the performance of the non-parametric Flexible Hazards Method

open access: yesFrontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, 2023
Numerous methods and approaches have been developed for generating time-to-event data from the Cox Proportional Hazards (CPH) model; however, they often require specification of a parametric distribution for the baseline hazard even though the CPH model ...

Evaluating the Utility of Paired Tumor and Germline Targeted DNA Sequencing for Pediatric Oncology Patients: A Single Institution Report

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the diagnostic yield and utility of universal paired tumor–normal multigene panel sequencing in newly diagnosed pediatric solid and central nervous system (CNS) tumor patients and to compare the detection of germline pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants (PV/LPVs) against established clinical referral criteria for cancer ...

Survival analysis of DNA mutation motifs with penalized proportional hazards

open access: yes, 2018
Antibodies, an essential part of our immune system, develop through an intricate process to bind a wide array of pathogens. This process involves randomly mutating DNA sequences encoding these antibodies to find variants with improved binding, though ...

Preferences of Pediatric Patients and Their Caregivers for Chemotherapy‐Induced Nausea and Vomiting Control Endpoints: A Mixed Methods Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Although not always achieved, complete chemotherapy‐induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) control is the conventional goal of CINV prophylaxis. In this two‐center, mixed‐methods study, we sought to understand the preferences of adolescent patients and family caregivers for CINV control endpoints.

Comparison of regression imputation methods of baseline covariates that predict survival outcomes

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Translational Science, 2021
Introduction: Missing data are inevitable in medical research and appropriate handling of missing data is critical for statistical estimation and making inferences.

Financial Burden Associated With Hospitalisation Among Families of Childhood Brain Tumours in Australia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Families of children with cancer experience significant financial strain, even with universal healthcare. Indirect costs, such as productivity losses and non‐medical expenses, are rarely included in economic evaluations, and little is known about how effectively financial aid programmes alleviate this burden. Childhood brain tumours

Hepatic resection for metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma: A proposal of a prognostic scoring system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Background: Hepatic resection for metastatic colorectal cancer provides excellent longterm results in a substantial proportion of patients. Although various prognostic risk factors have been identified, there has been no dependable staging or prognostic ...

‘They Need to Hear You Say It’: Healthcare Professionals’ Perspectives on Barriers and Enablers to End‐of‐Life Discussions With Adolescents and Young Adults With Cancer

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT End‐of‐life conversations with adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer rarely occur without the guidance of healthcare professionals. As a part of the ‘Difficult Discussions’ study, focused on palliative care and advance care planning discussions with AYAs with cancer, we investigated the factors that healthcare professionals identify ...

Time to Default in Credit Scoring Using Survival Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesManagement and Economics Review, 2017
Credit risk assesment has been dominated by logistic and probit regression techniques. As the use of credit scoring has expanded over the past 20 years, concerns have been raised about whether its use may unfairly affect minorities. The aim of this paper

A simple test of the proportional hazards assumption [PDF]

open access: yesBiometrika, 1987
A new test of the proportional hazards assumption for two-sample censored data is presented. The test is based on a comparison of different generalized rank estimators of the relative risk. Asymptotic normality and consistency against alternatives with monotone hazard ratio are shown and relationships to other proposals are pointed out.
