Analyzing conformational changes in single FRET-labeled A1 parts of archaeal A1AO-ATP synthase [PDF]
ATP synthases utilize a proton motive force to synthesize ATP. In reverse, these membrane-embedded enzymes can also hydrolyze ATP to pump protons over the membrane. To prevent wasteful ATP hydrolysis, distinct control mechanisms exist for ATP synthases in bacteria, archaea, chloroplasts and mitochondria.

This review examines the role of activated platelets in Alzheimer disease (AD) pathology, highlighting their contribution to amyloid peptide (Aβ) accumulation and neurofibrillary tangles. While platelets normally support neuronal health and synaptic plasticity, their overactivation may exacerbate AD.

Visualizing mitochondrial FoF1-ATP synthase as the target of the immunomodulatory drug Bz-423 [PDF]
Targeting the mitochondrial enzyme FoF1-ATP synthase and modulating its catalytic activities with small molecules is a promising new approach for treatment of autoimmune diseases. The immuno-modulatory compound Bz-423 is such a drug that binds to subunit OSCP of the mitochondrial FoF1-ATP synthase and induces apoptosis via increased reactive oxygen ...

Simultaneous monitoring of the two coupled motors of a single FoF1-ATP synthase by three-color FRET using duty cycle-optimized triple-ALEX [PDF]
FoF1-ATP synthase is the enzyme that provides the 'chemical energy currency' adenosine triphosphate, ATP, for living cells. The formation of ATP is accomplished by a stepwise internal rotation of subunits within the enzyme. Briefly, proton translocation through the membrane-bound Fo part of ATP synthase drives a 10-step rotary motion of the ring of c ...

ABSTRACT Purpose Embryo‐maternal signaling during the establishment of pregnancy in horses remains one of the biggest mysteries in large animal physiology. Early pregnancy loss represents a major source of economic loss to the breeding industry. This study aimed to investigate the systemic changes associated with early pregnancy by mapping the proteome

Monitoring subunit rotation in single FRET-labeled FoF1-ATP synthase in an anti-Brownian electrokinetic trap [PDF]
FoF1-ATP synthase is the membrane protein catalyzing the synthesis of the 'biological energy currency' adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The enzyme uses internal subunit rotation for the mechanochemical conversion of a proton motive force to the chemical bond.

Prostaglandins (PGs), particularly PGE2, have been implicated in the control of testicular steroidogenesis, spermatogenesis, and local immunity. However, virtually nothing is known about the expression or activity of the prostaglandin-endoperoxide ...

Abstract Nitro‐fatty acids (NO2‐FAs) are novel molecules resulting from the interaction of unsaturated fatty acids and nitric oxide (NO) or NO‐related molecules. In plants, it has recently been described that NO2‐FAs trigger a powerful antioxidant and defense response against stressful situations, the induction of the heat‐shock response (HSR), and ...

36 degree step size of proton-driven c-ring rotation in FoF1-ATP synthase [PDF]
Synthesis of the biological "energy currency molecule" adenosine triphosphate ATP is accomplished by FoF1-ATP synthase. In the plasma membrane of Escherichia coli, proton-driven rotation of a ring of 10 c subunits in the Fo motor powers catalysis in the F1 motor. While F1 uses 120 degree stepping, Fo models predict a step-by-step rotation of c subunits

Diosmetin Inhibits NETs Formation in Neutrophils Through Regulating Nrf2 Signaling
ABSTRACT Background Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are important pieces of equipment for neutrophils. Excess NETs play promoting roles in cancer‐associated thrombosis (CAT). Therefore, directing NETs formation is a promising therapeutic strategy in thrombosis and related diseases. Diosmetin, an antioxidant flavonoid derived from dietary sources,
