THE EFFECTS OF PROSTAGLANDINS ON GUINEA‐PIG ISOLATED INTESTINE AND THEIR POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTION TO MUSCLE ACTIVITY AND TONE

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, 1975
1 Prostaglandins F1α and F2α caused contraction of the longitudinal muscle of both guinea‐pig isolated ileum and colon, apparently by acting directly on the muscle and on cholinergic nerves. They had little effect on ileal circular muscle.

PAF‐induced inflammatory and immuno‐allergic ophthalmic diseases and their mitigation with PAF receptor antagonists: Cell and nuclear effects

open access: yesBioFactors, Volume 48, Issue 6, Page 1226-1249, November/December 2022., 2022
Abstract Ocular allergies are becoming more prevalent as more airborne pollutants, irritants and microbes pervade our environment. Inflammatory and allergic mediators released by dendritic and mast cells within the conjunctiva cause allergic conjunctivitis (AC), a prevalent ocular surface disorder that affects >40% of the world's human population on a ...

Expression and clinical implication of cyclooxygenase-2 and E-cadherin in oral squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesCancer Biology & Therapy, 2020
Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) and angiogenesis are crucial events for development of aggressive and often fatal Oral Squamous Cell Carcinomas (OSCCs).

The role of PAF in immunopathology: From immediate hypersensitivity reactions to fungal defense

open access: yesBioFactors, Volume 48, Issue 6, Page 1217-1225, November/December 2022., 2022
Abstract Platelet‐activating factor (PAF, 1‐alkyl‐2‐acetyl‐sn‐glycero‐3‐phosphorylcholine) was discovered when the mechanisms involved in the deposition of immune complex in tissues were being scrutinized in the experimental model of rabbit serum sickness.

An extension of a theorem of Zermelo [PDF]

open access: yesBull. symb. log 25 (2019) 208-212, 2018
We show that if (M,E,E') satisfies the first order Zermelo-Fraenkel axioms of set theory when the membership relation is E and also when the membership relation is E', and in both cases the formulas are allowed to contain both E and E', then (M,E) and (M,E') are isomorphic, and the isomorphism is definable in (M,E,E').

The induction of preterm labor in rhesus macaques is determined by the  strength of immune response to intrauterine infection.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2021
Intrauterine infection/inflammation (IUI) is a major contributor to preterm labor (PTL). However, IUI does not invariably cause PTL. We hypothesized that quantitative and qualitative differences in immune response exist in subjects with or without PTL ...

Endocannabinoid Hydrolysis Generates Brain Prostaglandins That Promote Neuroinflammation

open access: yesScience, 2011
A new tissue-specific pathway for the synthesis of proinflammatory prostaglandins is described. Phospholipase A2(PLA2) enzymes are considered the primary source of arachidonic acid for cyclooxygenase (COX)–mediated biosynthesis of prostaglandins.

Exosomes and their roles in the chemoresistance of pancreatic cancer

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 11, Issue 24, Page 4979-4988, December 2022., 2022
Despite the development of multiple promising chemotherapeutic agents as recommended first‐line treatment for PC, the therapeutic efficacy is largely limited by unwanted drug resistance.Exploring the relation between exosomes and chemoresistance may be conducive to understanding molecular mechanisms and taking effective measures to reduce the ...

FACTORS REGULATING THE BIOSYNTHESIS OF VARIOUS PROSTAGLANDINS

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1971
the Karolinska Institute working in collaboration with Professor B. Samuelsson. At that time we were able to develop thin-layer techniques which allowed quantitative measurement of the many different products appearing during prostaglandin biosynthesis ...

Metabolism of prostaglandins E, A, and C in serum

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1975
Three prostaglandin-metabolizing enzymes were detected in human serum. One enzyme was a dehydrase that converted prostaglandin E to prostaglandin A, the second was a prostaglandin A isomerase that converted prostaglandin A to prostaglandin C and the third was a prostaglandin C isomerase that converted prostaglandin C to prostaglandin B.
