Beraprost Attenuates Starvation‐Induced Apoptosis and Protects Feline Endothelial Cells

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
This study established a feline endothelial cell starvation model to test the anti‐apoptotic effects of beraprost and its stereoisomers. Beraprost and beraprost‐314d reduced starvation‐induced apoptosis by inhibiting caspase‐3/7 activity and modulating Bax expression, while beraprost‐315d was less potent.

Aniridia‐associated keratopathy: Clinical and molecular mechanisms of disease progression and emerging therapeutic targets

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 104, Issue 6, Page 604-615, September 2026.
Abstract Congenital aniridia is a rare genetic disorder primarily caused by pathogenic variants of the PAX6 gene. It leads to various panocular anomalies, including aniridia‐associated keratopathy (AAK). This review highlights recent insights into its pathogenesis, focusing on clinical staging, microstructural changes in the cornea and molecular ...

AMPK‐mediated prevention of vascular dysfunction with metformin: Experimental and population‐based evidence

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 17, Page 5389-5406, September 2026.
Angiotensin II induces vascular inflammation, senescence, extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation and endothelial dysfunction, thus impairing SK+/IK+ channel function and reducing endothelial‐dependent hyperpolarisation (EDH). Metformin activates AMPK, increasing SK+/IK+ channel function and restoring vasorelaxation.
