Biological and Enzymatic Characterization of Proteases from Crude Venom of the Ant Odontomachus bauri

open access: yesToxins, 2015
Hymenoptera venoms constitute an interesting source of natural toxins that may lead to the development of novel therapeutic agents. The present study investigated the enzymatic and biological characteristics of the crude venom of the ant Odontomachus ...

Proteases and Proteases Inhibitors of Semen - A Review [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Animal and Veterinary Sciences, 2014
The ejaculate composition is extremely complicated and variable among livestock species. The seminal proteins and enzymes are vital for ejaculate metabolism, spermatozoa performance, survival, and transport within the feminine reproductive tract. Proteases and proteinase inhibitors are secreted by the accessory sex glands of the male reproductive tract

Substrate specificity of the ubiquitin and Ubl proteases

open access: yesCell Research, 2016
Conjugation and deconjugation of ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like proteins (Ubls) to cellular proteins are highly regulated processes integral to cellular homeostasis.

Crystal structure of the 3C protease from South African Territories type 2 foot-and-mouth disease virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The replication of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) is dependent on the virus-encoded 3C protease (3Cpro). As in other picornaviruses, 3Cpro performs most of the proteolytic processing of the polyprotein expressed from the single open reading frame in

Transcriptome‐wide analysis of circRNA and RBP profiles and their molecular relevance for GBM

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CircRNAs are differentially expressed in glioblastoma primary tumors and might serve as therapeutic targets and diagnostic markers. The investigation of circRNA and RNA‐binding proteins (RBPs) interactions shows that distinct RBPs play a role in circRNA biogenesis and function.

The battle in the apoplast: further insights into the roles of proteases and their inhibitors in plant–pathogen interactions

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
Upon host penetration, fungal pathogens secrete a plethora of effectors to promote disease, including proteases that degrade plant antimicrobial proteins, and protease inhibitors (PIs) that inhibit plant proteases with antimicrobial activity. Conversely,

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.
