Calcium Stimulates Self-Assembly of Protein Kinase C α In Vitro. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Protein kinase C α (PKCα) is a nodal regulator in several intracellular signaling networks. PKCα is composed of modular domains that interact with each other to dynamically regulate spatial-temporal function.

Mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling genes in decapod crustaceans: cloning and tissue expression of mTOR, Akt, Rheb, and S6 kinase in the green crab, Carcinus maenas, and blackback land crab, Gecarcinus lateralis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) controls global translation of mRNA into protein by phosphorylating p70 S6 kinase (S6K) and eIF4E-binding protein-1. Akt and Rheb, a GTP-binding protein, regulate mTOR protein kinase activity. Molting in crustaceans

The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Inhibitors of metalloprotease, γ-sectretase, protein kinase C and Rho kinase inhibit wild-type adenoviral replication.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Adenoviruses cause upper respiratory infections, conjunctivitis, keratitis, and gastrointestinal illness. These can be fatal in immunocompromised individuals.

Activation of cGMP-dependent Protein Kinase by Protein Kinase C [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2003
The cGMP-dependent protein kinases (PKG) are emerging as important components of mainstream signal transduction pathways. Nitric oxide-induced cGMP formation by stimulation of soluble guanylate cyclase is generally accepted as being the most widespread mechanism underlying PKG activation.

GABA\u3csub\u3eB\u3c/sub\u3e Receptors Couple to Gα\u3csub\u3eq\u3c/sub\u3e to Mediate Increases in Voltage-Dependent Calcium Current During Development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Metabotropic GABAB receptors are known to modulate the activity of voltage-dependent calcium channels. Previously, we have shown that GABAB receptors couple to a non-Gi/o G-protein to enhance calcium influx through L-type calcium channels by activating ...

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

Effects of Newly Synthesized DCP-LA-Phospholipids on Protein Kinase C and Protein Phosphatases

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2013
Background/Aims: The linoleic acid derivative DCP-LA selectively activates PKCε and inhibits protein phosphatase 1 (PP1). In the present study, we have newly synthesized phosphatidyl-ethanolamine, -serine, -choline, and -inositol containing DCP-LA at the

Inhibition of protein kinase C by resveratrol

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Basis of Disease, 2003
Evidence is emerging that resveratrol (RV), a polyphenolic phytoaxelin present in dietary sources including red wine, may protect against atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease by enhancing the integrity of the endothelium. In this study, the possibility that such beneficial effects of RV may arise from a modulation of protein kinase C (PKC ...

Phosphorylation by protein kinase C and the responsiveness of Mg2+-ATPase to Ca2+ of myofibrils isolated from stunned and non-stunned porcine myocardinm [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Previously we showed in an in situ porcine model that the thiadiazinone derivative [+]EMD 60263, a Ca2+ sensitizer without phosphodiesterase III inhibitory properties, increased contractility more profoundly in stunned than in non-stunned myocardium ...
