Protein Kinase C Inhibitors Reduce SARS-CoV-2 Replication in Cultured Cells
Infection by severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has posed a severe threat to global public health. The current study revealed that several inhibitors of protein kinases C (PKCs) possess protective activity against SARS ...

Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

Galpha 12 and Galpha 13 Are Phosphorylated during Platelet Activation [PDF]
The ubiquitously expressed G-proteins G12 and G13 whose function is currently not clear have been shown to be activated in platelet membranes through receptors that stimulate platelet aggregation. We used intact human platelets to determine whether alpha

Tumor suppression by RNA from C/EBPβ 3'UTR through the inhibition of protein kinase Cε activity. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Since the end of last century, RNAs from the 3'untranslated region (3'UTR) of several eukaryotic mRNAs have been found to exert tumor suppression activity when introduced into malignant cells independent of their whole mRNAs.

Regulation of sertoli-germ cell adherens junction dynamics via changes in protein-protein interactions of the N-cadherin-β-catenin protein complex which are possibly mediated by c-Src and myotubularin-related protein 2: An in vivo study using an androgen suppression model [PDF]
Using a well characterized model of cell-cell actin-based adherens junction (AJ) disruption by suppressing the intratesticular testosterone level in adult rats with testosterone-estradiol implants, we have confirmed earlier findings that Sertoli-germ ...

Phosphorylation of Hepatitis C Virus Core Protein by Protein Kinase A and Protein Kinase C
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) core protein can form capsid-like particles and is believed to be the viral capsid protein. Besides its structural functions, this protein is also known to possess multiple regulatory functions. In this article, we have studied the possible phosphorylation of HCV core protein in two different human liver-derived cell lines Huh7 ...

Interaction of protein kinase C ζ with ZIP, a novel protein kinase C-binding protein [PDF]
The atypical protein kinase C (PKC) member PKC-ζ has been implicated in several signal transduction pathways regulating differentiation, proliferation or apoptosis of mammalian cells. We report here the identification of a cytoplasmic and membrane-associated protein that we name zeta-interacting protein (ZIP) and that interacts with the ...

ERBIN limits epithelial cell plasticity via suppression of TGF‐β signaling
In breast and lung cancer patients, low ERBIN expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. Here, we show that ERBIN inhibits TGF‐β‐induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in NMuMG breast and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. ERBIN suppresses TGF‐β/SMAD signaling and reduces TGF‐β‐induced ERK phosphorylation.

Effects of Newly Synthesized DCP-LA-Phospholipids on Protein Kinase C and Protein Phosphatases
Background/Aims: The linoleic acid derivative DCP-LA selectively activates PKCε and inhibits protein phosphatase 1 (PP1). In the present study, we have newly synthesized phosphatidyl-ethanolamine, -serine, -choline, and -inositol containing DCP-LA at the
