Iron-induced kidney cell damage: insights into molecular mechanisms and potential diagnostic significance of urinary FTL

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences
Background: Iron overload can lead to organ and cell injuries. Although the mechanisms of iron-induced cell damage have been extensively studied using various cells, little is known about these processes in kidney cells. Methods: In this study, we first ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Influence of Purple Onion Pulp Addition Level on Oxidative, Microbial, and Sensory Characteristics of Refrigerated Beef Patties

open access: yesFoods
Pre-treated beef patties (BPs) face storage instability due to lipid/protein oxidation, microbial spoilage, and quality loss. Purple onion pulp (OP), a bioactive-rich product, offers potential as a natural preservative.

Redox modulation of thimet oligopeptidase activity by hydrogen peroxide

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, 2017
Thimet oligopeptidase (EC 3.4.24.15, TOP) is a cytosolic mammalian zinc protease that can process a diversity of bioactive peptides. TOP has been pointed out as one of the main postproteasomal enzymes that process peptide antigens in the MHC class I ...

Mesoscopic sponge-like topology engineered onto polypropylene promotes retention of bound protein: [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The interaction between biopolymers and plastic surfaces defines an area of much interest. In this study, the oxidative activation, surface engineering and protein binding ability of polypropylene derivatives were examined.

N-terminal and C-terminal domains of calmodulin mediate FADD and TRADD interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
FADD (Fas–associated death domain) and TRADD (Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor 1-associated death domain) proteins are important regulators of cell fate in mammalian cells. They are both involved in death receptors mediated signaling pathways and have been

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Growth of Rhodococcus sp. strain BCP1 on gaseous n-alkanes: New metabolic insights and transcriptional analysis of two soluble di-iron monooxygenase genes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Rhodococcus sp. strain BCP1 was initially isolated for its ability to grow on gaseous n-alkanes, which act as inducers for the co-metabolic degradation of low-chlorinated compounds.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
