Interplay between single-stranded binding proteins on RNA secondary structure

open access: yes, 2013
RNA protein interactions control the fate of cellular RNAs and play an important role in gene regulation. An interdependency between such interactions allows for the implementation of logic functions in gene regulation.

The hydration of protein secondary structures

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1987
The hydration of the main‐chain carbonyl (CO) groups in proteins have been studied using infra‐red spectroscopy, and computer‐graphics analysis of high resolution protein crystal structures. The IR measurements indicate that the strength of water binding to the CO groups is lower in β‐sheet proteins compared with α‐helical ones. Analysis of the protein

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Improved probability graph model for protein secondary structure prediction

open access: yesJournal of Hebei University of Science and Technology, 2016
Protein secondary structure is closely related to protein tertiary structure and function, and became a hot topic in bioinformatics. The probability graph model HMM (Hidden Markov model) is an important tool in this field.

Photoactivation Mechanism, Timing of Protein Secondary Structure Dynamics and Carotenoid Translocation in the Orange Carotenoid Protein

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2018
The orange carotenoid protein (OCP) is a two-domain photoactive protein that noncovalently binds an echinenone (ECN) carotenoid and mediates photoprotection in cyanobacteria.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.
