Evaluation of secretion prediction highlights differing approaches needed for oomycete and fungal effectors

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
The steadily increasing number of sequenced fungal and oomycete genomes has enabled detailed studies of how these eukaryotic microbes infect plants and cause devastating losses in food crops.

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

The Dynamic ATP-Driven Mechanism of Bacterial Protein Translocation and the Critical Role of Phospholipids

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Protein secretion from the cell cytoplasm to the outside is essential for life. Bacteria do so for a range of membrane associated and extracellular activities, including envelope biogenesis, surface adherence, pathogenicity, and degradation of noxious ...

Quantification of Protein Secretion from Circulating Tumor Cells in Microfluidic Chambers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2020
Cancer cells can be released from a cancerous lesion and migrate into the circulatory system, from whereon they may form metastases at distant sites. Today, it is possible to infer cancer progression and treatment efficacy by determining the number of ...

Identification of protein secretion systems in bacterial genomes

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2015
Bacteria with two cell membranes (diderms) have evolved complex systems for protein secretion. These systems were extensively studied in some model bacteria, but the characterisation of their diversity has lagged behind due to lack of standard annotation

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Secreted bacterial proteins [PDF]

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2001
Predicted extracellular proteins of Bacillus subtilis have been compared with the experimental identification of the extracellular proteome by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis, peptide sequencing and mass spectrometry.
