The Impact of Protease during Recovery from Viable but Non-Culturable (VBNC) State in Vibrio cholerae

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Vibrio cholerae can survive cold stress by entering into a viable but non-culturable (VBNC) state, and resuscitation can be induced either by temperature upshift only or the addition of an anti-dormancy stimulant such as resuscitation-promoting factors ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Proteolytic Cleavage of Various Human Serum Proteinase Inhibitors by Candida albicans Aspartic Proteinase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The secreted Candida albicans aspartic proteinase (SAP) is presumed to be one of the putative Candida virulence factors, while serum proteinase inhibitors depend on host defense mechanisms.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Temperature and pH conditions for maximum activity of bromelain extracted from pineapple (Ananas Comosus L. Merril) - doi: 10.4025/actascitechnol.v33i2.7928

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology, 2011
Bromelain, the enzyme found in pineapple, hydrolyzes proteins’ peptide bonds, has several applications in the food industry and in medicine. Temperature and pH conditions for highest activity with casein as substrate were investigated from the bromelain ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Bacterial enzymes as potential feed additives in poultry farming

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Естественные науки, 2019
The problem of obtaining economic benefits in poultry breeding from complete absorption of feeds by domestic fowls through increasing the digestibility of nutrients remains urgent.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Cellular locations of proteinases and association with vesicles in porphyromonas gingivalis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medical Research, 2010
We found that locations of arginine-specific gingipain (RGP) in the cellular fractions in the crude extract, envelope, vesicles, and culture supernatants were 48%, 16%, 17%, and 31%, respectively, and the corresponding values of lysine-specific gingipain

Primary structure of potato Kunitz-type serine proteinase inhibitor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The serine proteinase inhibitor (PSPI-51) isolated from potato tubers (Solanum tuberosum L,) comprises two protein species with pi 5.2 and 6.3, denoted as PSPI-21-5.2 and PSPI-21-6.3, respectively.
