Induction of the c-jun proto-oncogene by a protein kinase c-dependent mechanism during exposure of human epidermal keratinocytes to ethanol

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1993
The present work demonstrates that ethanol induces expression of the c-jun proto-oncogene in human keratinocytes. Increased c-jun mRNA levels were detectable at 1 hr of exposure to 1% ethanol and at 24 hr remained above that in control keratinocytes. An increase in c-jun expression was also detectable at ethanol concentrations of 0.1 and 0.5%.

Differential expression of the c-jun proto oncogene during the cellular response to ionizing radiation is deminished by protein kinase C inhibitors

International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1990
of DNA dsb were, therefore, studied in the above cell lines using a pulse field gel electrophoresis technique, the asymetric field inversion gel electrophoresis (AFIGE). Small variations were observed in the induction and repair of DNA dsb in these two cell lines that could be largely explained by differences in the distribution of cells in the various

Localization of C-FOS and C-JUN proto-oncogene proteins in rat pleural mesothelial cells by immunofluorescence and confocal scanning laser microscopy

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1995
The proto-oncogenes c-fos and c-jun are members of a multigene family known as immediate early genes (IEG) that are transiently expressed in response to a wide variety of environmental stimuli. Homodimeric complexes of jun gene-family products and heterodimeric complexes of the jun and fos gene-family products form the transcription factor AP-1, which ...

Human Proto-Oncogene c- jun Encodes a DNA Binding Protein with Structural and Functional Properties of Transcription Factor AP-1

Science, 1987
Nuclear oncogene products have the potential to induce alterations in gene regulation leading to the genesis of cancer. The biochemical mechanisms by which nuclear oncoproteins act remain unknown. Recently, an oncogene, v- jun , was found to share homology with the DNA binding domain of a yeast transcription factor,

Correlation between lack of bone Gla protein mRNA expression in rat transplantable osteosarcomas and expression of both c‐fos and c‐jun proto‐oncogenes

Molecular Carcinogenesis, 1993
AbstractAlkaline phosphatase (AP) activity and expression of bone Gla protein (BGP), c‐fos, and c‐jun were compared in two transplantable osteosarcomas with high potentials for metastasis to the lung. The original spontaneous osteosarcoma (SOS) gradually became histologically undifferentiated, losing its osteogenic activity during serial transfer ...

Selective activation of the proto-oncogene c-jun promoter by the transforming protein v-Rel.

Oncogene, 1996
The transcription factor v-Rel is a transforming protein of the reticuloendotheliosis virus. We found that v-Rel activates the promoter of the proto-oncogene c-jun. Two elements in the c-jun promoter were required for the activation by v-Rel. One was a kB-site (v-Rel binding site), and the other was a c-jun promoter region between -52 and +148 (c-jun ...

[Effects of acrylamide on the protein expressions of c-fos and c-jun proto-oncogenes in cell L-02].

Wei sheng yan jiu = Journal of hygiene research, 2012
To investigate the cell apoptosis and expressions of c-fos and c-jun proteins induced by acrylamide (AA) in L-02 human liver embryo cell. The cell survival rate, cell apoptosis and protein expressions of c-fos and c-jun were measured respectively after L-02 cell were exposed to different final concentration of AA (low: 0.01, 0.1 mmol/l; middle: 0.1, 0.5,

Inhibition of protein kinase C prevents asbestos-induced c-fos and c-jun proto-oncogene expression in mesothelial cells.

Cancer research, 1997
Asbestos and the phorbol ester tumor promoter, 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA), increase c-fos and c-jun mRNA levels and AP-1 DNA binding activity in rat pleural mesothelial (RPM) cells, a target cell of asbestos-induced mesotheliomas (N. H. Heintz et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 90: 3299-3303, 1993).

Silica-induced activation of c-Jun-NH2-terminal amino kinases, protracted expression of the activator protein-1 proto-oncogene, fra-1, and S-phase alterations are mediated via oxidative stress.

Cancer research, 2001
Crystalline silica has been classified as a group 1 human carcinogen in the lung. However, its mechanisms of action on pulmonary epithelial cells which give rise to lung cancers are unclear. Using a nontransformed alveolar type II epithelial cell line (C10), we show that alpha-quartz silica causes persistent dose-related increases in phosphorylation of
