Acetaldehyde induces c-fos and c-jun proto-oncogenes in fat-storing cell cultures through protein kinase C activation.

Alcohol and alcoholism (Oxford, Oxfordshire), 1994
Hepatic fibrosis is an important morphological feature of alcohol-induced liver injury. We previously reported that acetaldehyde stimulates collagen I and fibronectin gene transcription in rat fat-storing cell (FSC) culture. We here evaluated whether acetaldehyde increases Col I and FN gene transcription through the induction of c-fos and c-jun proto ...

Induction of the c-jun proto-oncogene by a protein kinase c-dependent mechanism during exposure of human epidermal keratinocytes to ethanol

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1993
The present work demonstrates that ethanol induces expression of the c-jun proto-oncogene in human keratinocytes. Increased c-jun mRNA levels were detectable at 1 hr of exposure to 1% ethanol and at 24 hr remained above that in control keratinocytes. An increase in c-jun expression was also detectable at ethanol concentrations of 0.1 and 0.5%.

Differential expression of the c-jun proto oncogene during the cellular response to ionizing radiation is deminished by protein kinase C inhibitors

International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1990
of DNA dsb were, therefore, studied in the above cell lines using a pulse field gel electrophoresis technique, the asymetric field inversion gel electrophoresis (AFIGE). Small variations were observed in the induction and repair of DNA dsb in these two cell lines that could be largely explained by differences in the distribution of cells in the various

Localization of C-FOS and C-JUN proto-oncogene proteins in rat pleural mesothelial cells by immunofluorescence and confocal scanning laser microscopy

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1995
The proto-oncogenes c-fos and c-jun are members of a multigene family known as immediate early genes (IEG) that are transiently expressed in response to a wide variety of environmental stimuli. Homodimeric complexes of jun gene-family products and heterodimeric complexes of the jun and fos gene-family products form the transcription factor AP-1, which ...
