Phase I/II trial evaluating concurrent carbon-ion radiotherapy plus chemotherapy for salvage treatment of locally recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma

open access: yesChinese Journal of Cancer, 2016
Background After definitive chemoradiotherapy for non-metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), more than 10% of patients will experience a local recurrence. Salvage treatments present significant challenges for locally recurrent NPC.

Characteristics and Outcomes of Male Participants in a Multicenter Longitudinal Australian Study Cohort

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The aim of this study was to determine the differences in demographic, serologic, and clinical characteristics between male and female patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) in an Australian cohort. Methods This was a retrospective observational study using data from the Australian Scleroderma Cohort Study.

Observation of partonic flow in proton—proton and proton—nucleus collisions [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications
Abstract Quantum Chromodynamics predicts a phase transition from hadronic matter to quark–gluon plasma (QGP) at high temperatures and energy densities, where quarks and gluons (partons) are no longer confined within hadrons. The QGP forms in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Superlubricity and Corrosion Inhibition Properties of Solvate Ionic Liquids in Hybrid Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic–Steel Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Solvate ionic liquids lubrication reduced the coefficient of friction by ∼60% compared to dry sliding, reaching steady‐state values as low as 0.04–0.05. Corrosion weight‐loss measurements in 1 M HCl further demonstrated significant inhibition behavior, with only 100 ppm of [Li(G3)][TFSI] (∼68.5 μL/L) reducing corrosion‐product weight loss by 63 ...

Molecular Adsorbing Host•Guest (MAHG) Crystals: A New Paradigm for Porous Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Networking! Introduction of guest molecules in macrocycles before crystallization profoundly influences the material obtained in terms of structure and function. Beside simplicity and porous space improvement, this approach is endowed with a huge potential given the myriad of potential guest molecules that can be used to tune this burgeoning class of ...

Counterion Dependent Side‐Chain Relaxation Stiffens a Chemically Doped Thienothiophene Copolymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidation of a thienothiophene copolymer, p(g3TT‐T2), via different doping strategies and dopant molecules resulted in materials with similar oxidation levels and a high electrical conductivity of ≈100 S cm−1. However, mechanical properties varied significantly, with sub‐glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli spanning from –44°C to –3°C and ...

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

Proton-Proton Scattering at 340 Mev

open access: yesPhysical Review, 1950
Measurements of the proton-proton differential scattering cross section using 340-Mev protons show a cross section approximately constant between 41\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} and 90\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} in the center of mass system. Two methods of counting the scattered protons have been used.
