Hadron-Induced Radiation Damage in Fast Heavy Inorganic Scintillators
Fast and heavy inorganic scintillators with suitable radiation tolerance are required to face the challenges presented at future hadron colliders of high energy and intensity.

Proton–proton, anti-proton–anti-proton, proton–anti-proton correlations in Au + Au collisions measured by STAR at RHIC [PDF]
The analysis of two-particle correlations provides a powerful tool to study the properties of hot and dense matter created in heavy-ion collisions at ultra-relativistic energies. Applied to identical and non-identical hadron pairs, it makes the study of space-time evolution of the source in femtoscopic scale possible.

In Situ Observations of Blistering of a Metal Irradiated with 2-MeV Protons
A vacuum-insulated tandem accelerator was used to observe in situ blistering during 2-MeV proton irradiation of metallic samples to a fluence of up to 6.7 × 1020 cm−2.

Investigation of Alpha-Proton Drift Speeds in the Solar Wind: WIND and HELIOS Observations
In this paper, we present an analysis of how alpha–proton drift speeds (the difference between the magnitudes of alpha and bulk proton speeds) are constrained in the inner heliosphere using observations from the WIND and twin HELIOS spacecraft. The solar

On the Equality of the Proton-Proton and Proton-Neutron Interactions [PDF]
A comparison of the 1S proton-proton interaction and the 1S proton-neutron interaction has been made recently by Breit, Hoisington, Share, and Thaxton. It is the purpose of this letter to add a remark to the subject. With the meson type of potential, [C x e^(-lambda x r)]/r x lambda, a variational calculation has been made of the binding energy of H3 ...

Background: The present study is aimed at calculating relative absorbed-dose energy response correction (R) of commonly used thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) such as LiF, Li2B4O7, and Al2O3 as a function of depth in water for protons (50–250 MeV/n ...

Energy Dynamics in the Brain: Contributions of Astrocytes to Metabolism and pH Homeostasis
Regulation of metabolism is complex and involves enzymes and membrane transporters, which form networks to support energy dynamics. Lactate, as a metabolic intermediate from glucose or glycogen breakdown, appears to play a major role as additional ...

While the primary purpose of radiotherapy (RT) is the elimination of cancer cells by inducing DNA-damage, considerable evidence emerges that anti-neoplastic effects extend beyond mere tumor cell killing. These secondary effects are based on activation of

Study of light ions acceleration in a diode with a solid target and registration of nuclear proton-boron reaction products generated in the plasma diode [PDF]
The results of proton fluxes registration and the nuclear reactions (p + 11B > 3α) they induce on boron-containing targets in a plasma diode pinch, generated by irradiation of the anode target with a relativistic electron beam, are presented.
