Proximate composition of Vitex doniana and Saba comorensis fruits. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2023
Abstract The fruits of V. doniana and S. comorensis were randomly collected from Pwani and Tanga regions. Laboratory analysis was done using the methods described by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists AOAC (1995 and 2000). The amount of protein was 7.13 ± 0.04% and 21.73 ± 0.02% in V. doniana fruits while the fat contents were 2.4 ±

Child Labor, Urban Proximity and Household Composition [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2006
Using detailed survey data from Nepal, this paper examines the determinants of child labor with a special emphasis on urban proximity. We find that children residing in or near urban centers attend school more and work less in total but are more likely to be involved in wage work or in a small business.

Resolvent and Proximal Compositions

open access: yesSet-Valued and Variational Analysis, 2023
We introduce the resolvent composition, a monotonicity-preserving operation between a linear operator and a set-valued operator, as well as the proximal composition, a convexity-preserving operation between a linear operator and a function. The two operations are linked by the fact that, under mild assumptions, the subdifferential of the proximal ...

Consistent learning by composite proximal thresholding [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Programming, 2017
We investigate the modeling and the numerical solution of machine learning problems with prediction functions which are linear combinations of elements of a possibly infinite-dimensional dictionary. We propose a novel flexible composite regularization model, which makes it possible to incorporate various priors on the coefficients of the prediction ...

Proximate and heavy metals composition of Plantain (Musa paradisiaca L.) fruits harvested from some solid waste dumps in Uyo Metropolis, Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Plantain thrives well in waste dumpsites. These wastes usually contaminate the soil with heavy metals which become absorbed by the plants. The risk of heavy metal toxicity in humans is an issue of serious concern globally.
