In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION AND LOCAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE PYRENEES. THE CASE OF CERDANYA

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Geography, 2013
This paper examines how cross-border regions can generate, under certain preconditions and with EU support, territorial cooperation based on local endogenous development, reducing the effect of mental and physical borders as a potential new centrality ...

Essential Constraints of Edge-Constrained Proximity Graphs

open access: yes, 2016
Given a plane forest $F = (V, E)$ of $|V| = n$ points, we find the minimum set $S \subseteq E$ of edges such that the edge-constrained minimum spanning tree over the set $V$ of vertices and the set $S$ of constraints contains $F$. We present an $O(n \log

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Proximity effect in planar Superconductor/Semiconductor junction

open access: yes, 1999
We have measured the very low temperature (down to 30 mK) subgap resistance of Titanium Nitride (Superconductor, Tc = 4.6 K)/highly doped Silicon (Semiconductor) SIN junction (the insulating layer stands for the Schottky barrier).

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

The quality of online, offline, and mixed-mode friendships among users of a social networking site

open access: yesCyberpsychology: Journal of Psychosocial Research on Cyberpspace, 2012
The first aim of this study was to compare the quality of online, offline, and mixed-mode friendships (i.e., friendships that originate online and extend to offline settings) among users of a social networking site.

The excitation spectrum of mesoscopic proximity structures

open access: yes, 2000
We investigate one aspect of the proximity effect, viz., the local density of states of a superconductor-normal metal sandwich. In contrast to earlier work, we allow for the presence of an arbitrary concentration of impurities in the structure.

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Focal plane array optical proximity sensor [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
An optical proximity sensor for optically detecting an object within a predetermined detection volume is described. More specifically, an optical proximity sensor is disclosed having an illuminator assembly including lens and a plurality of light ...
