Prurigo nodularis and the microbiome

Clinics in Dermatology
Prurigo nodularis (PN) is a chronic skin condition that profoundly impacts quality of life. Histopathological studies of itchy hyperkeratotic nodules show dense infiltrates of T lymphocytes, mast cells, and eosinophils. A robust inflammatory response is implicated, coupled with key changes in neuronal plasticity that affect nerve fiber architecture and

Prurigo Nodularis and Uremia

Southern Medical Journal, 1975
Patients with uremia frequently have generalized pruritus that is usually related to a disturbance of calcium and phosphorus metabolism. This report describes three patients with uremia who had prurigo nodularis due to localized scratching and rubbing. The diagnosis of uremia in one case was made when the patient was hospitalized for evaluation of skin

Prurigo nodularis.

The Journal of family practice, 1993
Prurigo nodularis is a chronic skin disorder that is frequently misdiagnosed. It is characterized by multiple pea-sized nodules that develop on the skin, particularly on the anterior leg and thigh. These lesions are intensely pruritic and frequently become excoriated and infected.

Neurohistological Changes in Prurigo Nodularis

Archives of Dermatology, 1964
The innervation of a nodule from a patient with prurigo nodularis was studied using the improved silver impregnation technique of Richardson (1960). Profound changes were seen in nerve fibers, where there was a very marked acceleration in the rate of "turnover," and in Schwann cells, where there was hyperplasia and schwannoma formation.

Helicobacter pylori and prurigo nodularis.

Hepato-gastroenterology, 1999
Numerous data have suggested that there may be a relationship between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and extragastric diseases, including dermatological pathologies. We studied some cases of Hide's Prurigo Nodularis (NP), a very itchy skin disease of unknown origin, in order to asses whether there is a pathogenic correlation between PN and H.
