Cold Adaptation Strategies and the Potential of Psychrophilic Enzymes from the Antarctic Yeast, Glaciozyma antarctica PI12 [PDF]
Psychrophilic organisms possess several adaptive strategies which allow them to sustain life at low temperatures between −20 to 20 °C. Studies on Antarctic psychrophiles are interesting due to the multiple stressors that exist on the permanently cold ...

Cytoplasmic fluidity and the cold life: proteome stability is decoupled from viability in psychrophiles [PDF]
Protein diffusion, critical for cellular metabolism, occurs in the highly crowded cytoplasm. Understanding how this dynamics changes when organisms are adapted to different thermal niches is a fundamental challenge in microbiology and biophysics.

Characterisation of a cold-adapted, thermostable glucokinase from psychrophilic Pseudoalteromonas sp. AS-131 reveals how the enzyme achieves high thermal stability without loss of cold adaptation. [PDF]
We investigated glucokinase from the psychrophilic Pseudoalteromonas sp. AS‐131 (PsGK), which was isolated from the Antarctic Ocean. Biochemical studies revealed that PsGK is a cold‐adapted enzyme with high thermal stability, in contrast to general cold‐adapted enzymes, which have low thermal stability.

Genomics and ecology of Epibryaceae, a psychrophilic family in Chaetothyriales [PDF]
The family Epibryaceae is one of the early-diverging lineages within the order Chaetothyriales. Available molecular data show that most species are associated with mosses, liverworts, and lichens, typically inhabiting apparently psychrophilic ...

Mechanistic insights into a cold-adapted glucokinase with high thermal stability were revealed by site-directed spin labeling ESR [PDF]
The structural flexibility of enzymes plays an essential role in determining their catalytic efficiency and thermal stability. Cold-adapted enzymes are typically highly flexible, resulting in high catalytic activity but low stability.
