Kojic acid inhibited melanin synthesis by tyrosinase pathway in Pteria penguin
Kojic acid has significant anti‐melanogenic activity in mammals. However, few reports showed its function and mechanism in bivalves. In this study, by survival rate investigation and colour identification, 0.2–5 g/L kojic acid treatment for 24–48 hr was verified to be safe and effective to lighten shell colour of Pteria penguin (Roding; 1798).

Physiological Energetics and Carbon Budget of Three Size Specifications of Pinctada fucata martensii [PDF]
The continuous rise in greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide, has triggered a series of climate change issues on a global scale, including global warming, frequent extreme weather events, and sea-level rise.

ABSTRACT Relaxants are used in abalone aquaculture to facilitate handling, transport and grading stock, with minimal injury, stress, immune suppression and mortality. Benzocaine has been commonly used as an abalone relaxant but negative behavioural responses to exposure have been observed, and in some countries it has a withholding period, precluding ...

Effects of different densities of Isochrysis aff. galbana and Chaetoceros calcitrans on some growth parameters and survival rate of winged pearl oyster spat, Pteria penguin [PDF]
The growth performance and survival rate of spats of winged pearl oyster (Pteria penguin) fed with two microalgae, Isochrysis aff. galbana and Chaetoceros calcitrans, as well as the combination of both species over a period of 60 days, was evaluated. The

Bivalves use byssal threads for attachment and locomotion, periodically shedding and regenerating them. In the winged pearl oyster Pteria penguin—known for its strong byssus and its role in the pearl industry—shedding may occur when the byssal stalk ...

We developed and characterised 12 polymorphic microsatellite loci for Pteria penguin (Roding, 1798), an important pearl oyster species for pearl production in China. The number of observed alleles per locus ranged from 5 to 26 within 46 individuals.
