Urban land ownership and the housing question in Germany: Insights from Catholic social ethics

open access: yesVerbum et Ecclesia
As one measure to combat the housing affordability crisis, land policy is once again receiving more attention. However, it is little known that Catholic social ethicists in Germany were also heavily involved in urban land policy debates between 1950 and ...

Characterization of structural features of food molten‐globule state proteins: An overview

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract During food processing, pH, ionic strength, and temperature drive conformational transitions from native states to partially folded intermediates and fully unfolded states. The molten‐globule (MG) state typically preserves substantial secondary structure but has relaxed tertiary packing, thereby modulating protein solubility, emulsifying ...

Pregnancy‐ and lactation‐associated osteoporosis: A position statement of the IAPM, IOF, ECTS, ESCEO, IMS, and EMAS

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Pregnancy‐ and lactation‐associated osteoporosis (PLO) is a syndrome characterized by fragility fractures (most commonly vertebral, often multiple) occurring in late pregnancy or the early postpartum period. This position statement summarizes the current knowledge of PLO, and the recommended procedure for assessment, diagnosis and treatment ...

Exploration of High and Low Frequency Options for Subperception Spinal Cord Stimulation Using Neural Dosing Parameter Relationships: The HALO Study

open access: yesNeuromodulation: Technology at the Neural Interface, EarlyView., 2021
Abstract Objectives Subperception spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is described mostly utilizing waveforms that require high energy. However, the necessity of these waveforms for effective subperception has not been established. We aimed to explore whether effective subperception pain relief can be achieved using frequencies below 1 kHz.

Mapping Fatty Acid Composition in the Human Knee: Short‐Term Repeatability at 3T

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Alterations in periarticular lipid composition are implicated in musculoskeletal diseases, yet short‐term reliability of MRI‐based triglyceride composition mapping in the knee is not fully established. Purpose To evaluate 1‐week repeatability of proton‐density fat fraction (PDFF) and triglyceride fatty‐acid composition—saturated ...

Understanding and Addressing Delays in Endocrine Surgery: Insights From a Mixed‐Methods Study and a Pilot Educational Intervention

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Delays in endocrine surgical care contribute to adverse events, patient dissatisfaction, and mortality. Communication is an overlooked contributor. This study identified multi‐level drivers of delay and piloted a provider‐focused intervention. Methods We conducted an IRB‐approved mixed‐methods study.

Clinical Care Guideline Implementation of Nebulized Tranexamic Acid in Post‐Tonsillectomy Hemorrhage

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
In our quality initiative, we demonstrated how clinical care guidelines can be used as a strategy to implement tranexamic acid treatment of post‐tonsillectomy hemorrhage. High rates of algorithm adherence were observed with an associated reduction in need for operative control of hemorrhage.

Wage reactions to regional and national unemployment

open access: yesRegional Science Policy &Practice, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract This paper analyses the entire wage effects of unemployment for an especially long observation period. In a three‐step approach, the wage reaction at the national level (wage‐setting curve or aggregate wage equation) is added to the reaction at the regional level (wage curve). Spatial models with instrumental variables are used.
