Hollow Co3O4/TiO2 heterojunctions are engineered for high‐throughput laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry. The built‐in electric field drives efficient charge separation and photothermal conversion, while the hierarchical mesoporous network enables robust salt and protein tolerance.

Management of two circulations in a COVID‐19 patient with secondary superinfection
Optimal oxygenation in the intensive care unit requires adequate pulmonary gas exchange, oxygen‐carrying capacity in the form of hemoglobin, sufficient delivery of oxygenated hemoglobin to the tissue, and an appropriate tissue oxygen demand. In this Case

Pulmonary ventilation and gas exchange in bronchiectasis [PDF]
The subdivisions of the lung volume, pulmonary mechanics, and resting steady state pulmonary transfer factor were measured in 31 patients with bronchographically proven bronchiectasis. In seven patients the process of gas exchange was further investigated by fractionating the total alveolar-arterial oxygen tension gradient into diffusion, distribution,

Exercise response and the effect of supplemental oxygen during interval training on O2 uptake kinetics, blood lactate levels, and endurance performance in patients with mild, moderate and severe cystic fibrosis [PDF]
Background: Exercise performance is reduced in individuals with moderate to severe cystic fibrosis (CF). A ventilatory mechanical limitation, arterial hypoxemia, cardiovascular abnormalities, alteration in O2 uptake kinetics and reduced muscle ...

Inhaled nitric oxide reverses hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction without impairing gas exchange
Nitric oxide (NO) is an endogenous endothelium-derived relaxing factor that participates in the regulation of vascular tone. We studied the effects of inhaled NO gas on transient hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction and normal lungs in mechanically ...

SDPR–STK38 axis controls the proliferation–differentiation balance in alveolar type II cells
The present study identifies SDPR as a pivotal regulator orchestrating the balance between proliferation and differentiation in alveolar type II (AT2) cells. In SDPR+/+ cells, SDPR binds to and inhibits STK38 activity, thereby sustaining GSK‐3β signaling functionality to promote cyclin D1 degradation and maintain cell cycle homeostasis.

Characterizing Pulmonary Gas Exchange in Inborn Errors of Immunity Using Hyperpolarized Xenon MRI
RationaleInborn errors of immunity (IEIs) predispose individuals to recurrent respiratory infections and immune dysregulation, which together can drive inflammatory lung complications, including interstitial lung disease and thickening of the ...

Abstract Background Ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) allows the evaluation of lungs that do not meet standard transplantation criteria. Current procedures do not permit the identification of regional functional deficits. We investigated the feasibility of assessing lobar gas exchange during EVLP in a swine model.

Understanding alveolarization to induce lung regeneration
Background Gas exchange represents the key physiological function of the lung, and is dependent upon proper formation of the delicate alveolar structure. Malformation or destruction of the alveolar gas-exchange regions are key histopathological hallmarks
