Beraprost Attenuates Starvation‐Induced Apoptosis and Protects Feline Endothelial Cells

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
This study established a feline endothelial cell starvation model to test the anti‐apoptotic effects of beraprost and its stereoisomers. Beraprost and beraprost‐314d reduced starvation‐induced apoptosis by inhibiting caspase‐3/7 activity and modulating Bax expression, while beraprost‐315d was less potent.

On the History of Hepatic Vein Catheterization

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Hepatic vein catheterization (HVC) in man was first performed 80 years ago in the wake of right‐sided heart catheterization. Several new methods, recognitions and concepts followed, especially the indirect Fick‐method for determination of splanchnic blood flow. Five years passed before pressure measurements were performed and routine HVCs were

Interstitium‐Mimicking Porous Alveolar Membranes Enable Physiologic Aerosol Transport and Distinct Acute‐Chronic Lung Injury Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 62, 3 August 2026.
An interstitium‐mimicking membrane combines three‐dimensional alveolar geometry, high pore interconnectivity, and mechanical compliance to overcome transport limitations of conventional lung‐on‐chip barriers. The resulting platform supports physiologic aerosol transport, quantitative analysis of cross‐barrier particle movement, and reveals divergent ...

Role of iNOS in septic pulmonary microvascular endothelial cell activation

open access: yes, 2013
Abstract Background. Neutrophils and nitric oxide (NO) derived from inducible NO synthase (iNOS) contributes importantly to the pathophysiology of acute lung injury (ALI) and pulmonary microvascular endothelial cell (PMVEC) injury. However, the mechanism of neutrophil and neutrophil iNOS dependent PMVEC injury has not been addressed.
