Sleep apnea in REM sleep as an amplifier of vascular contributions to Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a common though underdiagnosed disorder in older adults, represents a potential upstream vascular stressor linked to increased Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk. In this Perspective article, we propose a stage‐informed framework in which rapid eye movement (REM) sleep‐related respiratory events amplify vascular ...

Dynamic Urinary Albumin/Creatinine Ratio Patterns Predict Adverse Outcomes in HFpEF: TOPCAT Cohort Analysis

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 49, Issue 8, August 2026.
Among 746 HFpEF patients in TOPCAT, latent class modeling identified three uACR trajectories: stable, decreasing, and fluctuating high. The fluctuating high trajectory independently predicted the composite of cardiovascular death, aborted cardiac arrest, or heart failure hospitalization, and adding trajectory data modestly improved risk prediction ...

Lung Pericytes: Molecular Mechanisms, Signaling Pathways, and Roles in Pulmonary Diseases

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 4, August 2026.
Central role of pericytes across major pulmonary diseases. Conceptual wheel diagram illustrating the central role of lung pericytes across diverse pulmonary disease states. A pericyte positioned at the center expresses canonical markers, including PDGFRβ, CD146, and NG2, and connects radially to five major disease contexts.

The Immuno‐Cardiovascular Storm of Pre‐Eclampsia: Cytokine‐Mediated Endothelial Injury, Thrombosis, and Maternal Cardiovascular Instability

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 4, August 2026.
Placental ischemia in pre‐eclampsia initiates cytokine‐driven endothelial dysfunction, angiogenic imbalance, oxidative stress, and thromboinflammation. Elevated TNF‐α, IL‐6, IL‐17, sFlt‐1, and complement activation promote vasoconstriction, thrombosis, and cardiovascular instability.

The Interstitial Fluid Compartment: Still Unrecognized or Biophysically Well Described?

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The proposal of a “new third bodily system for circulation of fluid” has been recently put forward. The present article sheds light on all available physiological knowledge concerning exactly this same space, defined as “interstitial compartment” as originally hypothesized by Ernest Starling about 130 years ago. We provide here a brief updated

The Serotonin 2B (5‐HT2B) Receptor: A Narrative Review of Preclinical and Clinical Evidence on the Safety Considerations and Therapeutic Potential for the Treatment of Depression

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 120, Issue 2, Page 345-356, August 2026.
Major depressive disorder (MDD) and treatment‐resistant depression (TRD) remain leading causes of disability, providing the impetus for receptor‐level treatment strategies beyond monoamine reuptake. The serotonin 5‐HT2B receptor (5‐HT2BR) is uniquely positioned at the interface of central‐antidepressant mechanisms and peripheral cardiac risks.
