Practical limitations in optical entanglement purification [PDF]
Entanglement purification protocols play an important role in the distribution of entangled systems, which is necessary for various quantum information processing applications.

Brucella NyxA and NyxB dimerization enhances effector function during infection
Brucella abortus thrives inside cells thanks to the translocation of effector proteins that fine‐tune cellular functions. NyxA and NyxB are two effectors that destabilize the nucleolar localization of their host target, SENP3. We show that the Nyx proteins directly interact with each other and that their dimerization is essential for their function ...

Quantum Communication and Decoherence [PDF]
In this contribution we will give a brief overview on the methods used to overcome decoherence in quantum communication protocols. We give an introduction to quantum error correction, entanglement purification and quantum cryptography.

UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction

Purification of large bicolorable graph states [PDF]
We describe novel purification protocols for bicolorable graph states. The protocols scale efficiently for large graph states. We introduce a method of analysis that allows us to derive simple recursion relations characterizing their behavior as well as ...

Dimeric pyruvate formate‐lyase cleaves pyruvate using a radical‐based mechanism. G734 serves as a radical storage location, and the radical is transferred to the catalytic C419 residue. Mutation of the C418‐C419 pair causes loss of enzyme activity, but does not impede radical introduction onto G734. Therefore, cis‐ but not trans‐radical transfer occurs

IT is never a very pleasant or gracious task to reply to criticism. When that criticism, however, is based on a misapprehension of the facts, and is consequently wrong and misleading, and is, moreover, enforced by whatever weight “authority” may carry, its correction is simplified down to a plain matter of duty.

Multipartite secure state distribution
We introduce the distribution of a secret multipartite entangled state in a real-world scenario as a quantum primitive. We show that in the presence of noisy quantum channels (and noisy control operations) any state chosen from the set of two-colorable ...

To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...
