Chronic stress and antidepressant treatment alter purine metabolism and beta oxidation within mouse brain and serum

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a complex condition with unclear pathophysiology. Molecular disruptions within limbic brain regions and the periphery contribute to depression symptomatology and a more complete understanding the diversity of molecular ...

Purine nucleoside phosphorylase: A new marker for free oxygen radical injury to the endothelial cell [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The effect of ischemia and reperfusion on purine nucleoside phosphorylase was studied in an isolated perfused rat liver model. This enzyme is localized primarily in the cytoplasm of the endothelial and Kupffer cells; some activity is associated with the ...

Germanane Quantum Dots Promote Metabolic Reprogramming of Immune Cells Toward Regulatory T Cells and Suppress Inflammation In Vitro and In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metabolic changes in immune cells direct the phenotype and function of the host immune system. Smart nanomaterials must target metabolic pathways to direct immune cell fate. This study reports the fabrication and first application of germanane quantum dots (GeHQDs) to modulate inflammation in vitro and in vivo.

Biocatalytic Regioselective C‐Formylation of Resorcinol Derivatives

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
An acyltransferase from Chromobacterium sphagni (CsATase) was identified that catalyzes the regioselective formylation of resorcinol substrates. The formylation of substituted resorcinol derivatives yielded mono‐formylated products with up to 99% conversion and up to 74% isolated yield.

Metabolite-dependent regulation of gene expression in trypanosoma brucei [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Mechanisms regulating gene expression in trypanosomatid protozoa differ significantly from those in other eukaryotes. Transcription of the genome appears to be more or less constitutive with the polyadenylation and trans-splicing of large polycistronic ...

Purine metabolism in Trichomonas vaginalis [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1982
The purine metabolism of several genera of parasitic protozoa, is of interest partly due to their sensitivity to purine analogues, and to differences in the enzymes of purine metabolism compared to mammalian systems [l-6]. Trichomonas vaginalis, the causative agent of trichomonal vaginitis, a mild, but very common, sexually-transmitted disease, has not

Microneedle‐Based Biofertilizer Delivery Improves Plant Growth Through Microbiome Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This figure shows how microneedles are used to deliver biofertilizers to enhance plant growth through microbial migration, metabolic reprogramming, and changes in plant endogenous microbiome. Abstract This study presents a microneedle‐based system for the delivery of rhizospheric biofertilizers into plant tissues to enhance growth.

Metabolome and Transcriptome Association Analysis Reveals Dynamic Regulation of Purine Metabolism and Flavonoid Synthesis in Transdifferentiation during Somatic Embryogenesis in Cotton

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2019
Plant regeneration via somatic embryogenesis (SE) is a key step during genetic engineering. In the current study, integrated widely targeted metabolomics and RNA sequencing were performed to investigate the dynamic metabolic and transcriptional profiling

The Intersection of Purine and Mitochondrial Metabolism in Cancer

open access: yesCells, 2021
Nucleotides are essential to cell growth and survival, providing cells with building blocks for DNA and RNA, energy carriers, and cofactors. Mitochondria have a critical role in the production of intracellular ATP and participate in the generation of ...

Studies on the relation between heme and nucleic acid syntheses in erythroid cell. II. Nucleic acid synthesis in erythroblast of anemic rat treated with aminopterin and bromouracil [PDF]

open access: yes, 1968
With the bone marrow of anemic rats, which had received the repeated injections of phenylhydrazine once a day for three to four days, the effects of aminopterin and bromouracil on the nucleic acid metabolism of erythroblasts were observed in vivo ...
