Iron is essential for many biological functions in bacteria, but its poor solubility is a limiting factor for growth. Bacteria produce siderophores, soluble natural products that bind iron with high affinity, to overcome this challenge.

This Review focuses on assessing and providing perspective on the field of rationally‐designed optical sensors constructed with single‐walled carbon nanotubes. The literature is reviewed and evaluated for SWCNT‐based sensors constructed with biomolecular recognition elements, including proteins, peptides, and oligonucleotides, as well as their methods ...

In vitro lung epithelial cell model reveals novel roles for Pseudomonas aeruginosa siderophores
The multidrug-resistant pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common nosocomial respiratory pathogen that continues to threaten the lives of patients with mechanical ventilation in intensive care units and those with underlying comorbidities such as ...

Pyoverdine synthesis by the Mn(II)-oxidizing bacterium Pseudomonas putida GB-1
When iron-starved, the Mn(II)-oxidizing bacteria Pseudomonas putida strains GB-1 and MnB1 produce pyoverdines (PVDGB-1 and PVDMnB1), siderophores that both influence iron uptake and inhibit manganese(II) oxidation by these strains.

ABSTRACT Trailing endpoints are a recognised challenge in broth microdilution MIC testing, particularly for bacteriostatic agents such as trimethoprim (TMP) and sulphonamides. In this study, we applied a pharmacodynamically guided refinement to determine the MIC of the combination against Staphylococcus pseudintermedius; we did not aim at redefining ...

Synthesis of the Pyoverdin Chromophore by a Biomimetic Oxidative Cyclization [PDF]
The fluorescent dihydropyrimido[1,2-a]quinoline chromophore of the pyoverdin siderophores has been synthesized by a biomimetic oxidative cyclization using an iodine(III) reagent, followed by elimination and dehydrogenation.

Mechanistic Insights for Microbiome Application in Plant Disease Resistance
This review summarises the mechanisms underlying plant‐guided microbiome modulation and probiotic‐mediated disease suppression. Additionally, it highlights the challenges to be addressed for a better microbiome application of disease resistance in sustainable agriculture and proposes possible strategies. Figure was created with BioRender.

Bacterial Fluorescence Signals Predict Dermal Regeneration Template Integration Outcomes
ABSTRACT Acute trauma wounds with exposed bone or tendon present significant reconstructive challenges, with high rates of dermal regeneration template (DRT) failure, often due to missed infections. Standard‐of‐care wound assessment, which relies on subjective clinical signs and traditional swabbing methods, frequently fails to detect clinically ...
