Synthesis of Optically Active 2-Alkoxy-2H-pyran-3(6H)-ones. Their Use as Dienophiles in Diels−Alder Cycloadditions [PDF]
Optically active 2-alkoxy-2H-pyran-3(6H)-ones (4a−d) were synthesized in one step by the tin(IV) chloride-promoted glycosylation and rearrangement of the 2-acetoxy-3,4-di-O-acetyl-d-xylal (3) prepared from d-xylose (1).

Gradient‐Structured Polymer Fiber Mats for Broadly Tunable Multicolor and White Lasing
Hierarchically engineered electrospun fiber mats containing separated red, green, and blue dyes enable highly tunable multicolor and white random lasing. Spatially controlled dye distribution suppresses energy transfer, allowing precise color adjustment across wide color gamuts and accurate reproduction of daylight white standards.

A substituent-controlled general approach to access arylated pyran-2-ones and pyrano[3,4-c]pyran-1,8-diones [PDF]
2H-Pyran-2-ones are useful precursors for the synthesis of various aromatic and heterocyclic compounds. In this Letter, we describe substituent-controlled direct access to functionalized 4-(2-oxo-1,2-diarylethyl)-5,6-diaryl-pyran-2-ones by stirring a ...

Plasmepsins as Antimalarial Drug Targets—Then, Now, and the Future
ABSTRACT Malaria is a devastating disease caused by Plasmodium parasites. Plasmodium parasites express ten cathepsin D‐like aspartyl proteases, called plasmepsins (PMs). These PMs have diverse roles fulfill diverse functions throughout the parasite's lifecycle, though several exhibit functional redundancies. Among them, PMV, PMIV, and PMX are essential

The continuing significance of chiral agrochemicals
In the time frame 2018–2023, around 43% of the 35 chiral agrochemicals introduced to the market (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, acaricides, and nematicides) contain one or more stereogenic centers in the molecule, and almost 69% of them have been marketed as racemic mixtures of enantiomers or stereoisomers.

Theoretical study on the Diels-Alder reaction of bromo-substituted 2H-pyrane-2-ones and some substituent vinyls [PDF]
A DFT study of the reactivity, regio- and stereoselectivity of Diels-Alder reaction between 3-bromo, 5-bromo, and 3,5-dibromo-2(H)-pyran-2-ones and some weakly activated and unactivated alkenes has been carried out using density functional ...
