The vascularly perfused small intestine of the rat was utilized to study the absorption and metabolism of pyridoxamine (PM) and pyridoxamine-5'-phosphate (PMP), independent of other tissues including erythrocytes. Abstract DOPA decarboxylase from rat liver was purified by chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex. The purified enzyme decarboxylates o-tryosine, m-tyrosine, DOPA and 5-hydroxytryptophan at different rates.
