Interaction between Pyridoxal Kinase and Pyridoxal-5-phosphate-Dependent Enzymes

Journal of Biochemistry, 2003
The interactions of two pyridoxal-5-phosphate (PLP)-dependent enzymes, alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and glutamate decarboxylase (GAD), with pyridoxal kinase (PK) were studied by fluorescence polarization as well as surface plasmon resonance techniques. The results demonstrated that PK can specifically bind to ALT and GAD.

Spectrophotometric determination of pyridoxal-5-phosphate

Analytica Chimica Acta, 1959
Abstract A simple and specific spectrophotometric procedure for the estimation of pyridoxal-5-phosphate is described, based on the complete disappearance of the absorption maximum at 385 mμ following the incubation with potassium cyanide.

Polarographische bestimmung des pyridoxals und pyridoxal-5-phosphats

Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry (1959), 1960
The estimation of pyridoxal together with pyridoxal-5-phosphate has been carried out by two polarographic methods. The first method is based upon the varying heights of the pyridoxal waves between ph 2 and 9. Since the height of the wave of the pyridoxal-5-phosphate practically does not alter with the ph, the decrease in the wave height of the mixture ...

Pyridoxal phosphate inhibition of platelet function

American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1980
The effect of pyridoxal phosphate (PLP) on human platelet function in vitro was studied. PLP inhibited adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-induced shape change, aggregation, and the potentiation by ADP of arachidonic acid-induced aggregation. This inhibition could easily be reversed by increasing concentrations of ADP or by removing PLP.

Plasma pyridoxal phosphate in anxiety disorders

Biological Psychiatry, 1994
One hundred and eighty-nine subjects with either generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, or obsessive-compulsive disorder were evaluated for plasma pyridoxal phosphate (PLP) levels and compared with normal controls. There was no difference in plasma PLP levels between the anxiety disorder groups and normal controls.

Reaction specificity in pyridoxal phosphate enzymes

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2005
Pyridoxal phosphate enzymes catalyze a wide variety of reaction types on amines and amino acids, generally by stabilizing carbanionic intermediates. This makes them very useful in cellular metabolism, but it also creates problems in controlling the reaction pathway that a given enzyme follows, i.e., in controlling reaction specificity. Stereoelectronic
