Pyridoxal phosphate-dependent reactions in the biosynthesis of natural products.
Natural product reports (Print), 2019Covering: up to mid-2018 Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) is a versatile organic cofactor used to catalyze diverse reactions on amino acid, oxoacid, and amine substrates.

Inhibition of gaba binding by pyridoxal and pyridoxal phosphate
International Journal of Biochemistry, 1980Abstract 1. 1. GABA exerts its neuroinhibitory effects by binding to a specific receptor on the post-synaptic membrane. 2. 2. Since both GABA and vitamin B 6 have been implicated in convulsion, the effects of B 6 vitamers on Na-independent binding of GABA was investigated by incubating synaptic membrane suspensions for 5 min at 4°C in 1 ml ...

Stereoselective amino acid synthesis by synergistic photoredox-pyridoxal radical biocatalysis
Science, 2023Developing synthetically useful enzymatic reactions that are not known in biochemistry and organic chemistry is an important challenge in biocatalysis. Through the synergistic merger of photoredox catalysis and pyridoxal 5′-phosphate (PLP) biocatalysis ...

DRUG-PYRIDOXAL PHOSPHATE INTERACTIONS
Drug Metabolism and Drug Interactions, 1982In this review it has been pointed out that vitamin B6 and its vitamers can be involved in many interactions with a number of drugs, as well as with the actions of various endocrines and neurotransmitters. Nutritional deficiencies, especially of vitamins and proteins, can affect the manner in which drugs undergo biotransformation, and thereby may also ...

The interactions between biogenic amines and pyridoxal, pyridoxal phosphate, and pyridoxal kinase
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1972Abstract The effect of biogenic amines on pyridoxal kinase activity has been investigated in vitro . Experiments with a purified beef brain pyridoxal kinase indicate that 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa), dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin inhibit the reaction, while tyrosine, tryptophan, and 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) have no effect. However,

Pyridoxal-5′-phosphate and pyridoxal biokinetics in aging Wistar rats
Experimental Gerontology, 1991Biokinetic parameters of plasma pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (PLP) and pyridoxal (PL) disposition were studied in male Wistar rats aged 8 and 27 months kept from weaning on a purified diet containing 250 g casein and 6 mg pyridoxine.HCl per kg. Baseline plasma PLP concentration was lower in the older animals (514 +/- 56 nmol/L for young and 317 +/- 124 nmol ...

Pyridoxal phosphate as a probe of reovirus transcriptase
Biochemistry, 1980The ribonucleoprotein core of reovirus is a multienzyme complex that transcribes messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) from double-stranded RNA templates. So far, the core has resisted attempts to disassemble it and identify the polypeptide species responsible for RNA polymerase activity. As an alternative approach, we tested pyridoxal 5-phosphate (PLP) as

REGULATION AND FUNCTION OF PYRIDOXAL PHOSPHATE IN CNS
Neurochemistry International, 1981Pyridoxal phosphate and pyridoxamine phosphate, the catalytically active forms of vitamin B(6), influence brain function by participating at stages in metabolism of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, other coenzymes and hormones. Vitamin B(6) participates in the metabolism of amino acids in the form of decarboxylation, transamination, deamination ...

Effect of vanadate and pyridoxal phosphate on S-adenosylmethionine
International Journal of Biochemistry, 1985Vanadate in the presence of pyridoxal phosphate promotes the decarboxylation of S-adenosylmethionine. Pyridoxal has a lower effect; pyridoxine none. The rate of decarboxylation depends on pyridoxal phosphate and vanadate concentration. Vanadate as low as 10(-7) M gives significant decarboxylation.
