The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

Studies on the structure and function of pyruvate dehydrogenase complexes [PDF]
The aim of the present investigation was to obtain more information of the structure and function of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complexes from Azotobacter vinelandii and Escherichia coli.In chapter 2 a survey is given of the recent literature on pyruvate

Minimizing acetate formation in E. coli fermentations [PDF]
Escherichia coli remains the best established production organisms in industrial biotechnology. However, during aerobic fermentation runs at high growth rates, considerable amounts of acetate are accumulated as by-product.

Serine biosynthesis with one carbon catabolism represents a novel pathway for ATP generation in cells using alternative glycolysis with zero net ATP production [PDF]
Recent experimental evidence indicates that some cancer cells have an alternative glycolysis pathway with net zero ATP production, implying that upregulation of glycolysis in these cells may not be related to the generation of ATP.

UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction

Reciprocal regulation of protein synthesis and carbon metabolism for thylakoid membrane biogenesis [PDF]
Metabolic control of gene expression coordinates the levels of specific gene products to meet cellular demand for their activities. This control can be exerted by metabolites acting as regulatory signals and/or a class of metabolic enzymes with dual ...

Surface residues dynamically organize water bridges to enhance electron transfer between proteins [PDF]
Cellular energy production depends on electron transfer (ET) between proteins. In this theoretical study, we investigate the impact of structural and conformational variations on the electronic coupling between the redox proteins methylamine dehydrogenase and amicyanin from Paracoccus denitrificans.

Activity oscillations predicted for pyruvate dehydrogenase complexes [PDF]
A kinetic model for the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex is analyzed. The model takes into account intermediate channeling through the lipoyl network attached to the complex core, as well as inter‐related regulatory effects of protein X acetylation and enzyme phosphorylation. The model predicts undamped oscillations of enzyme activity.

Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.
