Diffusive dynamics in trehalose aqueous solutions by QENS

open access: yesPhysica B: Condensed Matter, 2000
Abstract The work reports preliminary QENS results on aqueous solutions of trehalose. The employment of H/D substitution allows the separation of the diffusive dynamics of water from that of trehalose. The data analysis shows a slowed down water dynamics in comparison to that of bulk water.

Analysis of QENS in aligned nematic phases

open access: yesPhysica Scripta, 1995
The potential of QENS (quasi-elastic neutron scattering) to study molecular diffusive motions is well established, but in nematic phases it has not measured up to expectations due to the complexities of such systems. In this work we report the results of a detailed analysis of QENS data obtained for partially deuterated ethoxybenzylidene-bis ...

Dynamics of Nanostructures for Drug Delivery: the Potential of QENS

Zeitschrift Fur Physikalische Chemie, 2010
Abstract In recent biomedical studies different nanocarrier systems have been proposed for ´smart´ drug delivery. The engineering of these systems requires as a prerequisite a detailed knowledge of their structure and dynamics at the molecular level.

QENS and PCS study of aqueous BSA–PEO `crowded’ solutions

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 2000
Abstract In this contribution we report first results from a study of aqueous protein–polymer solutions using the complementary techniques of quasielastic neutron scattering (QENS) and photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS). A 15% solution of bovine serum albumin (BSA) without and with 10% PEO600 (polyethylene oxide, M w =600) is used as a model ...

QENS from polymer aggregates in supercritical CO2

open access: yesPhysica B: Condensed Matter, 2000
Abstract We report QENS measurements from PS-b-PFOA aggregates in supercritical CO2. Line shapes are dominated by localized diffusive modes and segmental dynamics of the anchored, finite-length PFOA chains. For Q⩽0.6 A−1, we obtain effective diffusion coefficients of ≅0.8 10−6 cm2/s.

Slow Dynamics in Liquid Metals as Seen by QENS

Zeitschrift Fur Physikalische Chemie, 2010
Abstract The quasielastic dynamics in liquid metals has been investigated by neutron scattering extensively during the past years. Precise measurements of the self-particle dynamics and the coherent quasielastic response provided conclusive evidence that the relaxation dynamics is governed by at least two processes. These two time scales

Diffusion of ammonia in silicalite studied by QENS and PFG NMR

Microporous and Mesoporous Materials, 1998
Abstract Ammonia diffusivities in silicalite have been studied by quasi-elastic neutron scattering (QENS) and pulsed-field gradient (PFG) NMR for temperatures between 200 and 500 K and loadings from 1.5 up to 4.3 molecules per unit cell. The diffusion coefficients obtained by both techniques increase with increasing ammonia concentration.

Water dynamics in Na zeolite P by QENS

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 1997
Abstract Quasi-elastic neutron-scattering (QENS) measurements have been made using the IRIS spectrometer (ISIS, UK) on water in synthetic Na zeolite P. The quasi-elastic broadening observed is assigned to a rotation of the water molecules.
