Internal quality control (IQC) is a valuable technique to ensure that the results produced from any assay are reliable and reproducible. Here I describe how to set up an IQC program for a new clinical assay based on IQC samples. The principles described here are applicable to assays for any biological material.

Publisher Summary Quality control in the clinical chemistry laboratory involves several related activities: (1) preventive measures adopted to minimize variance; (2) assessing the variance of an analytical technique by performing analyses on control material at the same time as on patients' material; (3) statistical analysis of patients' results; and

The matter of quality control does require two major approaches: 1 Internal quality control: this is the practice within a laboratory and demands a distinct operation under the control of a senior member of staff. 1 External quality assurance: this is usually established at an interlaboratory level and run by a professional peer ...

Mitochondria, the power plants of cells, are essential for various cellular functions. In skeletal muscle, mitochondria form a network, called mitochondrial reticulum, which fuels muscle contractile and metabolic functions. The high degree of structure-to-function specialization of mitochondria in skeletal muscle implies that it is closely gauged and ...

SummaryQuality control of medical data and judgements plays an essential part in the efforts to put medicine on a sounder basis. In the past, control procedures have been neglected because of the bulky work often connected with them; now, however, modern mechanical and electronic equipment opens up the possibility to check thoroughly with a justifiable

AbstractThe purpose of a control is to aid the operator in deciding whether an analytical system is producing reliable results for a given assay, and ultimately whether to release the results. This unit presents information on the techniques for determining when results are in control or out of control.
