Formation and deposition of tannins in Quebracho colorado (Schinopsis balansae Engl.)
Holz als Roh- und Werkstoff, 1995In Quebracho colorado heartwood tannins are located in the lumina of most parenchyma cells, fibres and vessels. Formation and deposition of the tannins were studied by electron microscopy. In parenchyma cells phenolic compounds first occur at the inner and outer side of the membranes of vacuoles.

Surface water treatment with tannin-based coagulants from Quebracho (Schinopsis balansae)
Chemical Engineering Journal, 2010Abstract Tannin-based coagulant agent called Silvafloc was tested on surface river water clarification. This novel coagulant can be used in drinking water treatment, and consist of a chemically modified tannin extract from Schinopsis balansae , commonly known as Quebracho colorado .

Abstract The object of this study was to elucidate the relationship between the chemical structure of purified condensed tannin polymers from tree species and their radical scavenging characteristics. By means of 13C-NMR spectrometry and pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS), four kinds of proanthocyanidins were ...

Proceedings of the British Society of Animal Science, 2009
Farmers have become heavily reliant on anthelmintics for the control of nematode parasites Due to the widespread development of anthelmintic resistance, alternative approaches for control of nematode parasites are needed. Cruden and Hovell (2008) reported that commercial lambs treated with quebracho tannin had reduced faecal egg counts and improved ...

Pine (P. pinaster) and quebracho (S. lorentzii) tannin-based foams as green acoustic absorbers
Industrial Crops and Products, 2015Abstract Open cells structure tannin–furanic foams prepared using two different types of tannins have been shown to give good sound absorption/acoustic insulation characteristics at medium and high frequencies (1000–4000 Hz) with coefficients of acoustic absorption of 0.85–0.97.

Rumen ecology detailed study using quebracho tannin as fermentation stressing factor
The understanding of gastrointestinal physiology helps to develop feeding strategies aimed at improving the sustainability and quality of the animal production chain. Tannins are secondary plant metabolites characterized by antimicrobial properties and they can be added to the diet as rumen fermentation modulators.Federica Scicutella +7 more

Use of condensed tannin extract from quebracho trees to reduce methane emissions from cattle.
Journal of animal science, 2007Our objective was to determine if condensed tannin extract from quebracho trees (Schinopsis quebracho-colorado; red quebracho) could be used to reduce enteric methane emissions from cattle. The experiment was designed as a repeated 3 x 3 Latin square (4 squares) with 3 treatments (0, 1, and 2% of dietary DM as quebracho tannin extract) and 3 28-d ...
