EXTRACTION OF SHIKIMIC AND QUINIC ACIDS
Chemical Engineering Communications, 1999Abstract Solvent extraction using an extractant/diluent system was evaluated for the recovery of shikimic and quinic acids. Tridodecylamine (TDA) was used as the extractant, and 1-heptanol as the diluent. TDA complexes with the acid resulting in an acid-amine complex, which is solvated by the alcohol diluent. In back extraction, oleic acid was added to

Colorimetric assay of shikimic acid against quinic acid
Analytical Biochemistry, 1972Abstract Shikimic acid heated with p-hydroxybenzaldehyde and concentrated sulfuric acid produces an intense and stable purple-violet dye with absorption maximum at 590 nm, and can be quantitatively determined in the range from 15 to over 120 ng (0.1 to 0.7 μmole/ml). Under the same conditions quinic acid produces no color reaction. Shikimic acid can

Abstract1. Hippuric acid (12·3% of the dose) and catechol (1·0% of the dose) were found as urinary metabolites when (-)-quinic acid (100 mg) was administered orally to rats. Neither protocatechuic acid nor vanillic acid was detected.2. No significant differences in the extent of urinary excretion of hippuric acid and catechol were found when the quinic

Synthesis of anellated carbasugars from (−)-quinic acid
Carbohydrate Research, 2003(3R,4R,5R)-3-[(tert-Butyl-dimethylsilyl)oxy]-4,5-(isopropylidenedioxy)-1-cyclohexanone (2) reacted with carbon disulfide and methyl iodide in the presence of sodium hydride to furnish (3R,4R,5R)-5-[(tert-butyl-dimethylsilyl)oxy]-3,4-(isopropylidenedioxy)-2-[bis(methylthio)methylene]-1-cyclohexanone (3).

Synthesis of Polyhydroxycyclohexanes and Relatives from (−)-Quinic Acid
The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2003An efficient and versatile strategy for the synthesis of polyhydroxycyclohexanes and related compounds 3-6 is reported. The successful synthesis of these analogues has been achieved from a common intermediate, quinic acid derived lactone 2, rapidly accessible from cheap and commercially available (-)-quinic acid (1) as a chiral template.

Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, 2010
Abstract All four regioisomers of feruloyl quinic acid and isoferuloyl quinic acid were synthesized and a liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) method developed that resolves all eight regioisomers. All eight regioisomers can be readily distinguished by their MS/MS spectra in the negative ion mode, illustrating the

Thermodynamics of interaction of caffeic acid and quinic acid with multisubunit proteins
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2000Helianthinin is a multisubunit protein from Sunflower seeds. Caffeic acid (CA) and quinic acid (QA) are intrinsic ligands present in sunflower seeds. The mechanism of interaction of these ligands with multisubunit proteins is limited. The present study enables one to understand the mechanism of the interaction of these ligands with the protein ...

Quinic and shikimic acids in fruits
Qualitas Plantarum et Materiae Vegetabiles, 1958There are relatively large amounts of quinic acid in young apples and small amounts of shikimic acid in senescent apples. The possible significance of these acids in the biosynthesis of the aromatic ring is discussed. The widespread occurrence of varying amounts of these acids in edible fruits (pears, gooseberries, blackberries, strawberries, cherries,

(−)-Quinic acid: configurational (stereochemical) descriptors
Tetrahedron: Asymmetry, 1997Abstract The configurational descriptors at C(1) and C(4) of (−)-quinic acid are given incorrectly in at least four reference compendia. The stereogenic centers C(1) and C(4) as a pair are reflection invariant and are thus not chiral centers. The correct name, according to the 1982 amendment to the CIP system, is (1 s n ,3 R ,4 s n ,5 R ...
