Polycarbonates from the Polyhydroxy Natural Product Quinic Acid

open access: yes, 2016
Strategies for the preparation of polycarbonates, derived from natural polyhydroxy monomeric repeat units, were developed for biosourced polycarbonates based on quinic acid.

Methyl on the Bridge: 2‐Methyl Propellane as Precursor for 1,3‐Substituted 2‐Methylated Bicyclo[1.1.1]Pentanes

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The synthesis of 2‐methyl propellane and its conversion to various 1,2‐ and 1,2,3‐di‐ and trisubstituted bicyclopentanes is reported. Abstract Bicyclo[1.1.1]pentanes (BCPs) have emerged as isosteric replacements for mono‐ and para‐substituted benzene rings in medicinal and materials applications, involving substitution at the BCP bridgehead (1,3 ...

Fluorogenic Sydnones for Bioorthogonal Labeling of DNA

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Conjugates of sydnones with cyanine‐styryl dyes combine bioorthogonal reactivity with fluorogenicity. The reactivity with bicyclo[6.1.0]non‐4‐yne (BCN)‐modified DNA showed second‐order rate constants of up to k2 = 2,300 M−1s−1 and fluorescence turn‐on by one magnitude of order.

Integrative analysis of the metabolome and transcriptome reveals the molecular mechanism of chlorogenic acid synthesis in peach fruit

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
As the most abundant phenolic acid in peach fruit, chlorogenic acid (CGA) is an important entry point for the development of natural dietary supplements and functional foods. However, the metabolic and regulation mechanisms underlying its accumulation in

Novel Zwitterionic Polydopamine Nanofiller‐Reinforced Hybrid Membranes With Superior Antifouling Performance for Wastewater Treatment

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This work reports one‐pot synthesized novel zwitterionic polydopamine‐silica (ZSiPDA) nanofillers for fabricating PES hybrid ultrafiltration membranes with enhanced hydrophilicity, permeability, and antifouling performance. The optimized membrane achieved over 91% humic acid removal and showed strong potential for municipal wastewater treatment.

Efficient syntheses of (−)-shikimate and (−)-quinate 3-phosphate via trans vicinal diol protection with 2,2,3,3-tetramethoxybutane (TMB) of shikimic and quinic acids

open access: yes, 2011
(−)-Shikimate 3-phosphate and (−)-quinate 3-phosphate can be synthesized by selective protection of their trans diol functionality using 2,2,3,3-tetramethoxybutane (TMB) using d-(−)-shikimic acid and d-(−)-quinic acid as starting materials.

Advances in protein–polyphenol complexation: Unraveling mechanisms, modulation, and functional outcomes

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract Polyphenolic compounds have attracted increasing market demand and extensive attention due to their potential health benefits and bioactivities. Meanwhile, proteins are widely used in the food industry for their nutritional and functional properties. However, the application of proteins in the food industry is often limited by challenges, such
