Preparation of N-doped carbon dots based on starch and their application in white LED [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
N-doped carbon dots (CDs) were synthesized simply and economically by a one-step hydrothermal method using starch as a carbon source and ethylenediamine (EDA) as a nitrogen dopant.

On the Planarity of Heterocyclic Bay‐Substituted Perylenediimides: Insight into the Fluorescent Photoinduced Electron Transfer Sensing Framework

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Near‐infrared fluorescent pH indicators based on perylenediimide were constructed in a modular receptor–spacer–fluorophore–spacer–receptor format with heterocyclic amino moieties at the bay positions. Counterintuitively, the dibrominated intermediate with two heavy atoms is more emissive than the heterocyclic compounds.

Feeder Color and Feeder Position Act As a Cue to Discriminate between Two Diets in Choice Feeding of Chicks

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2005
Chicks were offered a choice between diets added with or without quinine hydro-chloride (HCl) to elucidate the role and efficacy of feeder color (gray or orange) or feeder position (fix or change) in the two-choice preference test.

The Neural Encoding of Cocaine-Induced Devaluation in The Ventral Pallidum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Cocaine experience affects motivation structures such as the nucleus accumbens (NAc) and its major output target, the ventral pallidum (VP). Previous studies demonstrated that both NAc activity and hedonic responses change reliably as a taste cue comes ...

Beyond Gut Modulation: A Critical Review of the Therapeutic Potential, Safety, and Clinical Prospects of Natural Polysaccharides for IBD

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
In this review, we critically summarized the application of natural polysaccharides (NPs) for the treatment of IBD. This approach combines, in a unique way (right), the basic structure–activity relationships of NPs from different origins (left) with their multipronged mode of action, which involves modulation of the gut microbiota and other ...

Detection, quantification, and investigation of the red blood cell partitioning of cryptolepine hydrochloride [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy & Pharmacognosy Research, 2018
Context: The fight against malaria is limited by the development of resistance of Plasmodium to medication. This has led to an urgent search for alternative medicinal agents.

The management and treatment of malaria [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Falciparum malaria can create severe complications. Antimalarial drugs such as quinine or chloroquine help in the treatment and management to these complications. The use of chemoprophylaxis is a must for persons travelling abroad to countries subject to

Nutritional and sensory characteristics of local and hybrid East African Highland cooking bananas: Implications for breeding programs

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Bananas (Musa species) are an important staple food and cash crop in many parts of the world. The East African Highland cooking bananas form the backbone of food security for millions of Ugandans. The demand for high quality cooking bananas is thus closely linked to their sensory characteristics (which drive consumer preference) and
