Synthesis, Crystal Structure, Stacking Effect and Antibacterial Studies of a Novel Quaternary Copper (II) Complex with Quinolone

open access: yesMolecules, 2003
The structural properties of a new copper (II) complex [Cu2(cip)2(bpy)2(pip)]·6H2O (bpy=2,2’-bipyridyl, cip=1-cyclopropyl-6-4-oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylic acid, pip= piperazinyl anion), obtained during the synthesis of the copper complex

Reactive oxygen species play a dominant role in all pathways of rapid quinolone-mediated killing.

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2019
BACKGROUND Quinolones have been thought to rapidly kill bacteria in two ways: (i) quinolone-topoisomerase-DNA lesions stimulate the accumulation of toxic reactive oxygen species (ROS); and (ii) the lesions directly cause lethal DNA breaks.

Quantitative Risk Assessment of Susceptible and Ciprofloxacin-Resistant Salmonella from Retail Pork in Chiang Mai Province in Northern Thailand

open access: yesFoods, 2022
The adverse human health effects as a result of antimicrobial resistance have been recognized worldwide. Salmonella is a leading cause of foodborne illnesses while antimicrobial resistant (AMR) Salmonella has been isolated from foods of animal origin ...

Implantable Microarray Patch: Engineering at the Nano and Macro Scale for Sustained Therapeutic Release via Synthetic Biodegradable Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
This review focuses on the application of synthetic biodegradable microarray patches (MAPs) in sustained drug delivery. Compared to conventional MAPs which release drugs into the skin in an immediate manner, these implantable MAPs release drugs into skin microcirculation gradually as the biodegradable polymers degrade, thus offering sustained release ...

Could traces of fluoroquinolones in food induce ciprofloxacin resistance in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae? An in vivo study in Galleria mellonella with important implications for maximum residue limits in food

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
We hypothesized that the residual concentrations of fluoroquinolones allowed in food (acceptable daily intake—ADIs) could select for ciprofloxacin resistance in our resident microbiota.

Serine Grafted Silica Coated Nanoscale Zero‐Valent Iron with Enhanced Fenton‐Like Degradation of Mixed Organic Solvents of Tributyl Phosphate and n‐dodecane

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Serine grafted silica coated nanoscale zero‐valent iron is synthesized. Through the SiO2 coating and serine grafting, the aggregation and oxidation of nZVI are reduced, and the slow release of Fe2+ ensured the catalytic cycle. The adsorption capacity for TBP and n‐dodecane is higher, because of the synergistic effect of surface functional groups.

A Photothermal‐Photocatalytic Textile With Efficient Thermal Management for Boosting Ciprofloxacin Purification

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
A photothermal‐photocatalytic textile with carbon fiber felts decorated with TiO₂ films is proposed to purify ciprofloxacin (CIP) in water. It shows high solar absorption and efficient water evaporation. The local thermal effect can effectively enhance the catalytic degradation.
