Evaluation of Seismic Performance Parameters of Steel Moment Frames Using Conventional and Advanced Pushover Methods with Considering Higher Mode and Near Field Pulse-Type Effects [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Structural and Construction Engineering, 2016
Ductility, over-strength, material properties and design methodology are the factors affect the reduction rate of the lateral strength of structure in nonlinear region.

Antibiotic residues and R-plasmid selection: are in vitro methods good models? [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Three clones of E. coli, one of which was harbouring a tetracycline resistance plasmid were inoculated together into the stomach of axenic mice. Without antibiotic selective pressure, the R-Plasmid bearing strain became dominant in the faeces of mice ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Ecology of R Factors

open access: yesSouth African Medical Journal, 2017
The resistance to antimicrobial drugs and the incidence of R factors were determined in coliform bacteria, isolated from stool and environmental (soil, water) specimens from an urban Xhosa community, as well as from a remote drug-frea Xhosa community in the Transkei.

Engineering studies related to Skylab program [PDF]

open access: yes
The relationship between the S-193 Automatic Gain Control data and the magnitude of received signal power was studied in order to characterize performance parameters for Skylab equipment. The r-factor was used for the assessment and is defined to be less

(18-Crown-6-[kappa]6O)(pyrazolato-[kappa]2N,N')-potassium(I) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [K(C3H3N2)(C12H24O6)], is composed of a potassium cation bonded to the six O atoms of a crown ether molecule and the two N atoms of a pyrazolate anion.
