Experimental comparison between R134a/R744 and R438A/R744 (drop‐in) cascade refrigeration systems based on energy consumption and greenhouse gases emissions

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2021
This experimental study evaluates the energy performance and climatic changes of a cascade cooling system operating with the R134a/R744 pairs (cooling capacity of 4.5‐6 kW) and R438A/R744.

Speed of sound in liquid R134a

open access: yesInternational Journal of Refrigeration, 1992
Abstract The speed of sound for liquid R134a (1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane) has been measured along isotherms at temperatures from close to the triplee point to above the critical temperature (180–380 K) at pressures from near saturation to 70 MPa. The measurements were made by using a pulse-echo-overlap technique at 3 MHz.

Computational energy and exergy analysis of R134a, R1234yf, R1234ze and their mixtures in vapour compression system

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal, 2018
Due to the European Communities motor vehicle directive (2006) refrigerants with a GWP higher than 150 are not allowed from January 1, 2017 in new passenger cars. Thus, a replacement for R134a is needed.

A study of chevron type plate design on pressure drop and friction factor of brazed plate heat exchanger

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress &Sustainable Energy, EarlyView.
Abstract Brazed plate heat exchanger (BPHE) was analyzed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations by ANSYS Fluent to investigate the chevron‐patterned plates. The influence of geometric parameters, including corrugation pitch, depth, and angle was analyzed.
