From traditional practice to unsustainable exploitation: Fruit overharvesting on the endangered relict palm Jubaea chilensis

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Overharvesting of wild edible plants poses a growing threat to plant populations worldwide, particularly for slow‐growing species with limited regeneration. We quantified fruit extraction from the third‐largest known population of Jubaea chilensis—an endangered palm endemic to Chile—modeled the critical harvest threshold, and assessed consumer ...

Intercropping with legumes can reduce insect pest pressure but does not increase yield in winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Intercropping winter oilseed rape with spring faba bean reduced cabbage stem flea beetle and pollen beetle damage but also reduced crop yield. Sowing the intercrop simultaneously with winter oilseed rape was essential to maximize crop protection against cabbage stem flea beetles. Abstract BACKGROUND Winter oilseed rape (WOSR, Brassica napus) is a major

Soil‐dependent variation in strigolactone signaling distance revealed by a parasitic seed germination bioassay

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
A parasitic seed germination bioassay reveals strong soil‐dependent variation in strigolactone signaling distance, controlled by physical and biological soil properties, which shapes signaling range and parasitic weed infection risk. Abstract BACKGROUND Strigolactones are root‐exuded plant metabolites acting as germination stimulants for several ...

The continuing significance of chiral agrochemicals

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 1697-1716, April 2025.
In the time frame 2018–2023, around 43% of the 35 chiral agrochemicals introduced to the market (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, acaricides, and nematicides) contain one or more stereogenic centers in the molecule, and almost 69% of them have been marketed as racemic mixtures of enantiomers or stereoisomers.
